I'm beginning to get the impression that I could be doing something right either that or my eyes are playing up, because according to my kudos counter, I have 140,000 of the little darlin's.

Given that they only started about four years ago and a good number of my stories/episodes don't have many at all, I must be doing something which readers enjoy.

Thank you all for your encouragement.

Keep On Keepin' On

I think it's safe to say you're doing something which readers enjoy. Very safe.

As for kudos points, I often wonder about them. The best thing I've ever written was 'Sylvia', chapter 4 of 'The Infection Vector'. You don't have to be a professional author to know when you've nailed something, when all your ideas just leap from your fingers and take the keyboard completely out of your control. To say I'm proud of that chapter, which after all involved an ordinary woman struggling to shake off a sinister form of mind control, is a gross understatement.

It received 12 kudos points out of 551 reads, or 1 point per 45.92 readers.

A few months later I published 'Lifting The Veil', chapter 3 of 'Goodbye Master Stokes'. I was never happy with this. I wanted to abandon the story altogether, aware that I'd over-reached myself and that I was quickly running out of ideas.

Result? 63 kudos points out of 1020 reads, or 1 point per 16.19 readers.

To paraphrase Bill Hicks, it's either them or it's me - and it's not me.

Rant over.

Keep on keepin' on, Angharad.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

I think reads vs kudo's are misleading

I did not give kudos when I first started reading here because I was not ready to be a member yet. And I read a lot back then. You don't get that little button unless you are signed in. Eventually, it was the desire to give kudos to my favorite writers that forced me to get an account and I am glad that I did. Anyway, don't think that a story is unappreciated if it is being read at all. ... Just my thoughts.

Bright blessings,
Cassie Ellen

It's A Kind Of Benchmark

Good point, Cassie. But I can't think of a better way to assess the impact a story has. The average I tend to receive is 1 kudos point for every 30 - 35 reads. When a chapter deviates from that by a significant degree it gives me something to chew over.

Ban nothing. Question everything.

I'm just glad...

I'm just glad you're willing to not have a life most of the time... Else how would you find time to entertain us so much?

Thank you!
Annette

... and you deserve them all

Even if the cats actually gave them to you. Thanks for the daily dose of fun and humanity we find in your writings.

Thanks for making me feel bad

I have 10 percent of what you have. I better start writing more. If I go by my estimate I will have to write a 5000 part serial while systematically keeping you off the internet for the next decade.

In other news... want to go on a nice cruise to an island paradise?

Writing is what you do when you put pen to paper, being an author is what you do when you bring words to life

I'll add my MegaKudos as well...

to all of you who publish here and elsewhere. Over the last two years I have started six (6) stories, but they always stall and I am never able to finish them.

So thank you and keep up the good works. The rest of us really appreciate it.

KUDOS,

and hugs,

Mark <3

Congratulations

That is quite an accomplishment.

To all writers

To all writers I wish to express my thanks for your efforts. I enjoy most of what I read here on BCTS and other sites. I leave kudos where I can for those stories I like.

Unfortunately the system will only allow one kudo no matter how much I like the story. If you write 1000 words per day and get 50 kudos every day, you get more kudos than if you write 5000 words per week in one posting and get 50 kudos per posting. The stories are both well liked and well read but the kudo math doesn't work.

I comment from time to time but not always. Frequently there are so many well thought out comments that I don't want to get lost in the crowd. That doesn't mean I didn't like what I read.

Just know that we the readers like your work and appreciate your efforts so don't stop writing. I don't know if I could stand the withdrawal.

Much Love,

Valerie R
