After a Long Wait

Hi, apologies for the wait on this next chapter of Maiden by Decree. Real Life has once again conspired to keep me from the keyboard and I know this one is short. I wanted to make sure all you believed me when I was telling you I hadn't dropped the story and it will be completed.

I can tell you that the chapter after this one is going to get really exciting and will be longer.

Bike Week 2010

Apparently this week is "Bike Week" - no, nothing to do with Portsmouth's very own soap opera, but (the organisers claim) "a national celebration of cycling!"

Apparently it's "an annual opportunity to promote cycling and show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK. This year they aim to make 'everyday cycling for everyone'!"

Dormice benefit from wood being made butterfly friendly

Greetings

I just came across the following story on a local BBC web site:

The dormouse population in a Worcestershire nature reserve is growing, as a result of work to make a wood butterfly friendly.

Monkwood nature reserve, owned by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, had 30m (33 yard) rides cleared.

Hope you all enjoy it.

10th anniversary

It was this date in 2000 that my first TG fiction story was published at Fictionmania. The Great Shift- Support Group. To be honest, the story contains most every cliche known to the sci-fi or magic variety of those stories. My first writing effort also resembles an outline more than it does a story. A trait many Great Shift stories seem to suffer from.

The good news- It is short or under 5,000 words in length. I am republishing Support Group today at BC.

School's out

School is out for the summer.
I have survived the first year of nursing school, and have a B+ average.
I only have one year to go.

While I am in school, I really haven't any time to read. I try to catch up during the summer.

The one draw back of summer time is that my kids are out of school, too. That means I am not free to dress however I want.

A warning about 'Throw Me Away'

I haven't posted it yet, but will do so tonight. I just wanted to give a warning because it's rather depressing and not very good. But I don't have anything else to post and it's been sitting on my hard drive for a month or so, so I figured I'd post something, no matter how bad. Yeah, really makes you want to read it, doesn't it? ;)

So, now she will give me 17! GAH!

Another person recently inquired about a Space Opera story they were looking for. This brought to my mind Marina's story The Last Frontier over on Sapphire's. She seems to have left a large portion of her later works unfinished, and I just wondered if anyone ever hears from her, or knows of her, or maybe if something happened to her. She authored quite a few really good stories then just faded.

The statistics at the end of the article make sad reading when you look at the proportion of TG folk who are working in the sex industry. The population of New Zealand is presently about 4.37 million persons.

Turnabout is fair play

I edit for a number of authors here, and do not ask for any notice in print, either on their stories, or elsewhere. I do it to help them with their stories, for as most will admit, And I certainly will on my own writings. The author is usually too close to the story. When looking it over, the author sees what they meant to write / thought they had written, instead of what actually went down on paper ( or in pixels on their screen). It is always helpful to have at least one extra set of eyes look at the story.

I spent some time this morning reading Tips and being left with the desire to read the entire trilogy. I had never looked at my postings the way other readers at this site might find them. I opened up Five Love Stories en Brochette when I realized I hadn't posted a correction to the epilog. I've experienced my share of ties and know they're bittersweet for both sides, even in under the best circumstances.

This is the most off the wall story

You got to love Florida

*****

ISLAMORADA, Fla. — Sheriff’s dispatchers didn’t know what the problem was when they got a frantic 911 call at 1:20 a.m. All the caller could do is yell his address and tell them he was “crushed.”

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies rushed to the scene, a residence at the 88-mile marker of U.S. 1.

When they got inside, they found the man who’d apparently fallen asleep in his recliner.

He was abruptly awakened when the head of a water buffalo that had been hanging on the wall next to him fell onto his lap.

According to Deputy Don Dalton, the head was so heavy the man couldn’t move, but his cell phone was close enough to his hand that he was able to call for help.

*****

Call this delayed karma. The water buffalo was shot a decade ago and was given to its present owner.

I'm in absolute awe of the depth and breadth of talent I've found on these pages. I've found absolute joy and total despair. The joy from the courage of many of the authors and their characters; the despair from the revelation that what I've found is also a reflection of the real ME. I've known deep inside myself, since a very early age, that this is what was right for me.
