The time for sparking writing interest is here! With the fall comes a new school year for kids, college for teens, and business as usual for adults. Lets explore the dysfunctionality of real life occurring between a TIGLB character and either a friend, sibling, parent, co-worker, or even an enemy. Develop the story of a TIGLB character finding out about themselves before or after they split up or leave the friend, sibling, parent, etc. and then seeking reconciliation with the person(s) they split from earlier. The submission must include all three of those elements: 1) The "before the split" 2) Finding out about and becoming themselves 3) Reconciling with the person from the past that they broke from.

The story can use any plot device, any theme variation from romantic, to horror, to comedy, etc. and any time period or setting. Stories must have a minimum word count of at least 6,000 words (hence the longer Submission/Development period for this contest). Stories must be brand new and never posted anywhere else on the Internet or published. Multiple submissions are allowed with only the top voted one submission of any author's total submissions to claim a prize.

Some examples demonstrating what I'm looking for include:
The Prodigal, The Reluctant Girlfriend, and within Emily.

Please remember to label your submissions on the ++Fiction page under the heading box of Contests and
properly select September/October 2012 Reconciliation Story Contest on your Submission(s).

ONLY 1 vote per person using ONLY 1 of their registered site accounts for voting.

Vote on the Flagged Contest Stories during this period for the ones you like best! The top 4 voted for stories will be the winners!

Multiple attempts to vote using additional accounts owned or created by that person will nullify their votes and have us pull out the paddle of banishment!

The 4 top stories will be awarded a prize designated as follows: 1st place - $100, 2nd place - $75, 3rd place - $50, 4th place - $50.

The winners will need to pm Erin or Sephrena with their mailing address or paypal account to transfer to for their prize award.

All prizes will be mailed or transferred very soon after the winners announcement.

So get your Laptops, PC's, Apples, Ipads, or Smartphones geared up and start writing! ^^

If you have any questions about the contest

... please voice them here as a comment or if it's touchy, you can also pm me with it. ^^ I'm more than open to answer any and all questions about it or if you feel your story might be borderline as an entry. I'm looking forward to a lot of entries to read and hope we can get a lot of authors interested.

"Before the split" question

I started working on an idea for this contest where the story starts out with someone talking to a relative who is taking them away from parents about why they asked to be taken away. Is this okay for the "before the split" part, or do you have to actually show the scene where the main character is splitting up from someone else? I'm not sure if I'm making sense or not. Would it help if I posted what I wrote so far?

Before The Split

By that I mean tell some of the main character and the one that they split from to set up the story before they actually split up (or one runs away from the other or leaves).

So write the before part, the split and discovering ones self, then the reconciliation.

So, for what you described, I think you need to go a little further back and provide some before detail - just a little to introduce the situation unless as the split occurs you provide a flashback to let us know about what happened with the main character and the one they split from before.

ummmm don't post your work publicly until it is ready. Keep it a secret and if there is really a question pm me and I'll work with you to answer it in private.

Reconciliation.

Reconciliation.

Yes, reconciliation is a laudable concept upon which to base a story and I applaud any who participate for it shows great strength of character to achieve reconciliation.

Sadly, I am not counted amongst those strong characters, I cannot bring myself to be reconciled. I envy those who can.

Beverly, the purpose

for these contests is to stretch and challenge you to do things you might not otherwise do and find out more about yourself than you thought you knew ^^ why not try it? I implore you to please try and see where it takes you.

Was Hoping for a True Halloween Contest

So finally I write a story that could be in a Halloween type contest that should be finished in a few days and there is not going to be a true Halloween contest this year.

Mah nish ta nah haliallah hazer me'col haleylot?

Shalimar, you can

still use your Halloween story. There is nothing to say what part of the year the the opening of your story has to be in nor at the end of it. You can have it all occur during October or any other holiday. Just ensure it meets all 3 parts for the contest and you can still use it! Make your's occur during Halloween then ^^

Sephrena

It don't

It is a magic transformation story.

Bitter Herbs

Dear Shelly:

She-be-chol ha-lelot anu ochlin she-ar yetajit, ha-laila ha-zeh moror?
Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables, but on this night we eat bitter herbs?

The Answer is:

We were slaves unto the Pharoahs of Big Closet Top Shelf. And Erin and Sephrena, the Royal Task Masters laid Hard Labors on us. And limited our writings and story tellings. They made our lives bitter with such limitations. ;-)

Ah, man...

You folks always announce these contests when I'm right smack in the middle of a story.

Ah, well maybe next time.

Have delightfully devious day,

There is more than 2 Month's time

to write something between now and when the cutoff is. I mean, it's up to you whether you want join it or not. I just wanted a more concise premise for the contest and see what everyone could come up with instead of the usual generalized "anything goes" deal. I do hope you decide to reconsider and attempt my challenge.

I DO promise a regular Christmas story contest this year if that helps inspire you to write in this one ^^ I have themed it BigCloset TopShelf's 2012 Spirit of Christmas Story Contest. So you can start now on that one as well (The spirit of what Christmas should be about (what Christmas means to a TGILB main character) or what is done for them through the or in the Spirit of Christmas).

If I finish in time....

Daniela Wolfe's picture

If I finish in enough time I may consider writing something, but knowing me and knowing how slowly my writing typically goes I'm not very optimistic that I'll be able whip something up.

Maybe, I'll try for Christmas... Even then it'll depend on whether my muse allows for it... she can be a fickle lady at times. ;P

Have delightfully devious day,

Happy ending required?

Does the reconciliation need to be a successful one, or could a story about a failed attempt at reconciling be acceptable?

chapters

Can there be multiple chapters. I'm writing my story now and it sort of got ... big?

Reconciliation contest

Sorry, Made sure that my story had all the right ingredients but didn't spot the minimum word count. A shame as I dashed it off in an hour this afternoon.

Then you have time to fix it ^^

You don't have to rush things. There is only 7 entries so far. Just take and make the corrections and changes you want and repost it. Usually the contests I sponsor have at least 21 to 35 entries, but this time is like the lowest I have ever seen. I'm disappointed more people haven't taken the time like you have to try. So please do your best Susan. I know you can do it ^^

Thank you very much for taking the time and entering the contest.
