Ripoffs?

These guys: http://forum.silicone-breast.com/viewforum.php?f=11 seem to be publishing stories from BCTS without permission. Everything here is automatically copyrighted in the name of the author so these guys are violating federal law. At least two authors have complained to me and I have sent a takedown request via the site's Contact Us link.

I am sure that several other authors are having stories posted without their permission. Have a look and send them a takedown notice.

Hugs,
Erin

Maddy Bell, Jessie Wolf,

Maddy Bell, Jessie Wolf, Mario Davis, Karen Lockhart, Angharad, and even myself have all been victims of the thief. It's the same person doing the theft and posting in our names but doing so without any seeming rhyme or reason for what parts are posted.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

also

Alecia Snowfall's picture

also Gypsywoman's series too.

The following

Maddy Bell's picture

insertion will be added randomly to my works

If you are not reading this on Big Closet it has been stolen and illegally posted. This work is Copyright Madeline Bell and no permission has been giving for posting elsewhere in any form.

It might not do anything but at least alerts 'genuine' users of the illegal nature of the 'posts'

Most, if not all, are copied from BCTS

I looked through the three pages that are there.

Most of the titles are well-known or recent titles from BCTS. It wouldn't surprise me if all are ripoffs.

Me too!

I urge everyone to check this out. I just found Alexa Chapter 7: A New Reality posted to the site. I had never heard of this site until today when a former author on this site told me one of their stories had been posted.

Yep...

I am there, too. I just sent a message to have them remove my story(ies).

So bizarre...

They even left the links to the images that are on the BC Server. Of course they don't work, but it clearly shows that's where the images reside...

Not sure where we go if they don't take them down, though...

theft

Erin tells me that site is based in Canada. All our Canadian authors, please raise the Devil.

I sent message

Alecia Snowfall's picture

I sent a message.

I am alecia Snowfall, co-writer and editor for Embracing Justice, Embracing Justice: Manhunt and Embracing Justice: Justice or Vengeance. You people have violated copy-write by posting those stories. REMOVE THEM AT ONCE! Wolfjess7 has not given you permission to post those stories and as for my series and stories I DENY permission! A copy of this message is being posted at BCTS for the record and I will have an email copy. Jessie will be contacting you at her earliest convenience to express her own outrage!

quidquid sum ego, et omnia mea semper; Ego me.

Story thief will pay.

wolfjess7's picture

I just this message. I hope they are smart and lesson.

My Name is Jessie Wolf. I have not give you or anyone else to post my stories anywhere else other than at Big Closet/ Top Shelf. If you have posted my stories you have done so with out my permission. This is an act of Piracy that is punishable under copy write laws. Embracing Justice, Embracing Justice: Manhunt and Embracing Justice: Justice or Vengeance, Death's Own Daughter, School time for Death, and Knights of Death are ALL my property. For whoever made the mistake of stealing from me all i can say is pull down the illegal postings or talk to my lawyers. I don't play or make idle threats. I have no problem with using my connections in Law Enforcement to hunt down those who believe that Piracy is a victimless crime. As for outrage I have yet to express that, and will not go there. I respect this site for too much to allow myself to be pulled down to that level.

May the peace and happiness of the Goddess keep and protect you
as always your humble outlaw

DCMA Takedown?

DCMA Takedown anyone? If they're ignoring polite requests it's time to use the sledgehammer

Can we do creative commons?

My first posting went up last week (thanks for all the love that was given it). However, I would prefer that my works be presented under creative commons-BY license. (Free to use, with attribution).

I understand that Maddy and others are selling their works, and full copyright is needed for them, so I don't want to do anything that will harm their rights. If I put a CC-BY tag on my stories (I didn't even think about copyright on the first posting), will that create problems?

Dawn Natelle

Nope

erin's picture

No problem. Use CCBY if you like. But these guys at the referenced site did not include correct attributions in more than half of the cases, so they would probably still be violating your copyleft.

Erin

Alecia Snowfall's picture

I just sent them an email.

quidquid sum ego, et omnia mea semper; Ego me.
alecia Snowfall

Unfortunately that doesn't

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the one who is doing it, all of the "author" names are in fact redirecting to the administrator's account. That smells like it is rotting form the head down, this person is just making it appear to be us posting the stories while s/he hides behind his/her anonymity.

This other person may just be an innocent person trying to actually get help writing.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

Ripping off BC, not stories

I just followed the link and seen what the problem is.

The list of stories references, in most cases, the original author's name. There are a whole bunch of chapters and standalones from recent BC postings, and too many authors for it to be a deliberate and selective copying process.

It seems to me that this is an attempt to rip off BC, not the authors. Perhaps the idea is to set up some kind of honeypot where people accidentally end up instead of BC from where they can be served malware as well as copied-off stories.

Looking back to the beginning of the list, it is possible that this was originally a bona fide site that has been taken over by ill-meaning people. Whatever the original desire, this situation needs to be fixed soonest before it creates a precedent.

Penny

Copyright laws

Are exactly what it says; The right to copy. If you do not have written permission to copy something that someone else wrote you can not copy it. This goes for ANY written material.

These permissions can be very specific. Such is the case for that Creative Commons license that a few use here. This is the author's written permission to use their story in specific ways. Keep in mind that there are various Creative Common licenses.

The "copyright ©" DOES NOT have to appear in the written material for it to fall under the copyright protection. Nor does any other warning!

All you must have, if it comes to court, is proof that you are the author. In the case of the stories here on Big Closet, you have copied your story here to Big Closet to a passworded account that only you have the pass word to. That gives the date of publication to Big Closet and the passworded account provides more than enough proof that you are the author that posted it.

We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,
We are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

Sent Email

I didn't open my story. I assume it is copied from BC because BC is the only site where I post.

Jillmi

Angela Rasch (Jill M I)

Post have changed on that site but not taken down

It looks like the culprit has went in and instead of removing the stolen stories, they have changed the name of the person that posted the story to that of the real author.

I also saw no way to contact the webmaster of the site without becoming a member?

There is something very phishy with the way that site is set up, I advise if you do sign up to contact them, use an alternate email address, do not use your real name or the name you use here, and do not use any password or sequence of password that you would normally use.

We the willing, led by the unsure. Have been doing so much with so little for so long,

Here's the "whois"

Here's the "whois" information as of right now. This gives the registrant and registrar.

Complaining to the registrant may not fix the problem, but you can try complaining to the registrar. If they refuse to do anything, it's the place to send a legal letter, as well as possibly contact ICANN to have the site deregistered as a criminal site only. I have no standing, so this is as far as I can go :)

And of course Alibaba Group

And of course Alibaba Group is another Chinese company, and the address in Grand Cayman is probably just a mail drop. Companies commonly register there as a tax dodge. This is like falling down the rabbit hole.

Would it be good to contact our internet provider and our anti-virus providers and tell them about silicone-breast.com about the stealing and the suspicion of malware, and/or viruses ?
That would be putting them in the spot light of the power-that-be.
Or maybe just let the RCMP, FBI, and Interpol have the information....

Peace and Love

Unfortunately everyone, I was

Unfortunately everyone, I was just there, no changes. Our internet provider could care less, and can't do a thing.
This site is stealing openly posted material, that anyone is free to copy or print for themselves. The DNC couldn't stop hacking, which this isn't, try suing a Chinese based group. Good luck to us. We really don't want the FCC to regulate the internet, so I don't think they can help us. Putting a lot of copyright warnings is like taking out a restraining order, not worth the paper it is printed on.

Any smart legal eagle out there? We need professional help.

Karen

scrolled through the stories list

BarbieLee's picture

They have copied all the latest stories from BCTS and none of the older ones. It's not BC administrators fault when a site gets ripped off. Only means I won't be posting anymore stories here in order to keep them from being spread across the net by con artists. I don't mind sharing across the net but not this way. If these or others start digging backwards into the stories, I'll probably ask for all of mine to be removed. It's not fair I know.

A programmer can decompile that site to find all the links and gotchus in it. I am busy gearing up for spring.

I strongly suggest no one go to that site unless you have your spyware, malware, virus protection, and java script blockers in place. Do NOT click on any links. When I found another site had copied one of my stories which was one meg large, their link contained almost four meg. Loaded no doubt with spyware and virus out the wahzoo.

Stay safe, don't click on links on suspected sites. New virus out there and it resides in memory. So far no virus protection can root it out. https://sputniknews.com/science/201702111050581359-file-less...

What DMCA does (get smart)

BarbieLee's picture

Note: although the DMCA is part of US Copyright law, a DMCA Takedown does not require the content to be copyrighted in order to process the takedown OR for the request to have the content taken down acted upon by the website owner or ISP.

In other words, the fact the content is yours, or in the case of a photo or video the subject is you, can be sufficient enough to request a takedown

As much as I would love to do

As much as I would love to do it, I can't afford $200 to remove something that I gave away for free and won't in a lifetime receive even 1/10th of that amount in sales for.

I'm told STFU more times in a day than most people get told in a lifetime

DCMA.COM

Please keep in mind dcma.com is not the end stop for dcma requests that is a commercial service designed to do the hard work for you, there are free ways to do this, it's a pita but it doesn't require you to spend $200 to do this unless you want someone to do the process for you.

https://nppa.org/page/5617
http://www.whoishostingthis.com/resources/dmca/

There are others that I found, but it doesn't require $200 to generate and send one. =]

So why do these sh**heads dare do this?

Obviously they think they are going after small timers who probably do not have the resources to go after them. Also, they think authors here might even be afraid to, given some of them might be 'embarrassed' to reveal there legal name.

They are craven cowards of the first water. The second front in getting this squelched should be finding a way to prevent them from monetizing this theft. Internet interests who handle stories like ours either through publication or through subscription should have a way of getting lists of purloined stories so they know they are stolen. They would then be suitably informed who the legal authors are. Sadly, this is the only real way to suppress this kind of behavior.

This is the reason why

NONE of my photographs are put up on the internet.
There are slimeballs out there who will steal the lunch from your plate, in other words anything and everything.
I had a picture stolen like this and the scumbag passed it off as his own AND got paid for it. That was the thing that tipped me over the edge. The people who paid him for it could have had it for free if they had asked me. So I removed every picture of mine that I could from the internet or made sure that those that remained were in a very low quality. Even that may well not be enough these days. There are bits of software that can remove people and even vehicles from scenes. They can also be used to improve the quality of an image so much that even a screen capture quality image can be made printable in quality magazines.
Sorry for the monday morning rant but I applaud all the efforts of everyone here to get this scum site shurdown.

Strange Chinese knockoffs?

I'm a bit late to the party obviously but they have 2 of mine up there too!

Really not seeing the logic of how things were sampled to be honest..
It almost feels like they just put stuff on at random to make it vaguely look like people are using their site at a glance but the execution is sloppy at best and I can't really think of an end goal from doing it to be honest?
Anyone got any ideas what they were hoping to gain from all this?

Domain Authority

According to MOZ, Big Closet has a domain authority of 34 and this new site has a domain authority of 10.

Fictionmania has a domain authority of 24. What does this mean? Do some google searches for transgender fiction and see what sites come up on the front page in the SERPs. Most first time visitors come to a site through organic search. Unless we give this site free publicity by complaining about them they will wither and die. I have struggled against unsavory competitors all of my career. In the end, I'm still standing and they're all long gone.

Individual authors might hate the idea of their work being improperly posted, but frankly . . . good luck in getting it taken down. A few years ago I started a site and spent a great deal of time preparing several videos for the site. Within a day they had been "scrapped" and were on at least a half-dozen other sites. We tried without any success to get them taken down from the other sites. I've sent my email to this site but will not hold my breath.

I'm not sure what this new site's strategy is, but think about it . . . BC has all the advantage and is barely making it.

In the online world, traffic is king. Traffic generates clicks. Clicks generate conversions. Conversions generate profit.

According to SEMrush, the new site's Feb. traffic score is an paltry 26, while BC has a score of 31,700. Flyspeck versus a very robust site.

Don't worry about it. If this new site was a serious effort, they would be buying Google Ads to gain traction, which they aren't doing.

Hmmm... looks like I'm lucky

So far, I haven't seen a single one of my stories in there, it seems odd as I've been posting pretty steadily for more than 2.5 months now, but I guess they couldn't copy everyone. I'm glad that I'm not having to deal with this sort of crap, it's bad enough to see it happen to others.

The items shown there are quite a mix, a few pieces from one thing, a couple from another, and so on, like they just randomly picked them.
