Is it just me, or does anyone else find the low-contrast purple w/ white dot background annoying?
Why does it appear sometimes on some pages and not at other time on other pages?

Not Just You

It was an issue for a while this evening and Sunday evening. It was the same for me using both Chrome and Firefox. All is well at the moment.

Comes and goes

To make matters worse, I have sallow skin tone and purple clashes horribly with it. ^_^

Corrupt file

This is caused by a file that get corrupted while loading the cache. We are working on solving the problem at the source and when this happens, we do clear the cache to clear it up as quickly as we can.

failure to load a different background

The purple-with-dots is the base background of the site -- the bottom layer that everything else is stacked on top of. So the light yellow background is a separate layer which loads on top of the purple so that the text stands out. Sometimes something glitches and prevents that yellow layer from loading, so we just see the base purple-with-dots instead.

easy solution

Remove that terrible base layer and replace with a more suitable colour - it's alright being clever with stuff but apart from being annoying this feature is redundant these days with all the fast internet, i'm not even sure it was that useful when we were using dial up.
