Sitting Down

Printer-friendly version

I created a new keyword (in the Other Keywords box.) All are welcome to use "Bathroom Foibles."

Martha walked into the lady's room. Red in the face, she immediately left.

"May I help you, ma'am?" the help desk clerk asked.

"Where is the lady's room? I thought I was going into the right one, but there are urinals!" she said while crossing her legs and looking decidedly uncomfortable.

"You were in the right room. After the new law, the trans men have been demanding urinals, and the women have been complaining about splatter on the toilet seats."

Urinals

Sometimes called "Low sinks" ^J^

I whizzed through this story

Did that actually happen, or are you takin the piss?
This has been quite the day for short, silly stories!

(I just applied your "Bathroom Foibles" tag to my
2017 story What About Bob?, but there's a lot more
stories here that it would be appropriate on...)

Taking a piss?

Would I do that? I guess it is a good way to do an experiment with that weed that's just off the back of the porch. Will extra nitrogen make it grow taller?

But I didn't try the trick that Bob did in your story.

Women Urinals - old Idea

Around 1890, In an effort to address the increasing demand for public facilities for women, some men designed urinals for women. These low elongated urinal were intend to be used by women. However, women objected to the idea they were to hike up there dresses and back up to these strange "low sinks". This demand for more appropriate seating cause the orders for female urinals to drop even as the production was ramping up. How to get rid of the unwanted inventory? Why sell them cheap as men's urinals! So, these female urinals can be found in government building built in the early 1900's all across the USA. They are, of course, found in the men's restrooms.

Old factories

Years ago I worked building maintenance and one of the buildings I worked around had them. Building was late 1800's or possibly very early 1900's.

I concur, I saw it in a couple of old buildings that had minimal renovation due to corruption...at least the places were clean.

Historically

Many years ago there were women's urinals and crudely sometimes also called "rag changers". Only reason that I know this is from working in and around a very old building where the women's room was changed over to a men's room because the men's room had been cleared out to be used as storage. I don't know if I can find a link to an image or not, if I do I will add it.

weird...

but in an offensive way it makes sense...considering the facility, it's not a surprise.

Urinals for women

If I joined the squat-to-pee club, I would definitely like facilities that don't require that I place my tender tooshie upon a questionable surface. But failing that, I think that I would keep a small can of spray disinfectant in my purse.

The Solution

Bidets, and ladies can still sit! They are also environmentally friendly, using about a quarter of the water that normal toilets use. The Japanese have a high-tech version that washes and blow-dries those sensitive private parts.

I've added it to my "Intended Consequences". I think it mostly fits.

Got another story idea that should fit. Come to think of it, I can write the idea two different ways.
