"The Never Mine"

In the mountains of Antarctica, lies the source of a mineral that grants long life. Anyone in possession of a shard of this substance no longer ages. It's difficult to acquire and many have died trying to do so. Worse, those who do have a piece of forever are targeted and even murdered by people who want to acquire endless tomorrows without frostbite or chilblains. But the joke's on them. You have to dig the rock of eternity out of the ground with your own hands or the magic doesn't work.

Dreamed this one up

Literally dreamed it, got up and wrote a version of it down. I decided I will never have the right kind of mindset to do a full story of it, so I turned it into a drabble. Glad you enjoyed.

Hugs,
Erin

= Give everyone the benefit of the doubt because certainty is a fragile thing that can be shattered by one overlooked fact.

With age and added aches & pains

this does sound pretty good. But also the maturity of years gives one the wisdom to question long life. Personal goals have been met, lifelong friends have passed on, and one has learned money is only for things. It is love and the things one can do with one's "own hands" that give lasting pleasure and meaning.

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful little story Erin.

I think

I think the kernel of the dream I had came from a conversation. I said something like, if I live to a hundred there are stories to tell I'll never get the time to write. And the other person said something like, try for two hundred. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hugs,
Erin
