Achievement Unlocked 02

Authors note:

part 1 got several ninja edits after I posted it. These are as follows:

  1. John's starting skill is 4, not 6
  2. Becca threatened to horsewhip Paul herself. She didn't mention her father.
  3. When Paul tried to grab the broom, it zapped him not John.

And now part 2

Achievement Unlocked 01

The well was large as far as wells went. Almost a yard across with a foot high rim. There wasn't even a road nearby just miles of forest in all directions. Yet the well had been there as long as anybody could remember. A solid structure of dressed grey stone, fitted together so precisely that the mortar was not visible between the interlocked courses. The problem, however was not the wells construction but the sudden lack of water.

The Ark

Jackson was in a mission to save mankind, but a series of incidents made him question his place. The more he questioned, the more he felt something was wrong. Wrong with him, his mission, and even the space ship he was on. The problem was that CLAIRE, the artificial intelligence system could also see something was wrong and was determined to fix things.

Racing Angels -chp 8

Racing Angels

Webster’s dictionary defines Speed as the fallowing: the rate of change of position along a straight line with respect to time over a set distance. In other words, the quicker you can get from one place to another. The question is what do you, do when your family has spent the last two generations in search of ways to accomplish this goal faster and faster. Would do you do when the family business is the search for more Speed. For Robert ‘Robby’ McGuire the answer is easy. You grab your sister and strap on a pair of Formula One racecars then go for broke.

When she concentrated she could feel it in the air around her, like a great cold emptiness that wished to seep into her skin and suck the life within her dry. She could always feel it somewhere in the back of her mind. A wrongness. A world without magic. And she had barely any magical ability to begin with! How could the mages who came here stand it?

Elsewhere, Otherwhen, Somehow: Chapter 5

That had been a good meal, I was content with a full belly. Tanris and I hoped to return soon if we could do so without some kind of hassle.

He spent some of the time while we traveled informing me about the court. It was only then that he said he was taking me to see the High Lord. I turned a bit in the seat and asked him why? His reply was quite simple, "If you are the one in the prophecy, he needs to know."

Author's Note: It's been a long time since I started this story. I'm sorry for the delay. I was probably too close to some of what I was writing so had to give it a healthy pause. However now I'm up and running again I hope that you find some small pleasure in this tale. As ever please be tolerant of my failings, and forthright with your criticism. ~Persephone

A Slave of Jupiter

A Slave of Jupiter is an independent sequel to A Princess of Jupiter. You might want to read that story first to get the context, but it isn't absolutely necessary.

Casey Brooke receives a visitor from Jupiter requesting help to save the planet. Unsure if this was a hoax or if Casey was going insane, Casey decides to bring what the visitor requested to a location in Sedona, Arizona at the appointed time. An accident ensues and Casey finds himself now on Jupiter; alone, naked, and female. Can Casey, now Cassia, save the planet and find love at the same time?

Politics is... Pretty Close to Home, Too [2.3]

Screaming is healthy... well, sometimes at least?
Screaming in bad situations can help you resist much worse, politically unwise actions as well in the long run.

There's no shame in letting off a nice big girly scream or two while falling through the air at speed at least, no matter who you are.

Events unfold including but not limited to:
Plans being made and shared repeatedly,
Someone gets clingy for semi-valid reasons,
And Hannah uses John as a meat shield!

Fighting the Homm: part 15, final.

Chapter twenty nine: mopping up.

Even though the events of the last couple of weeks had made things a lot better, a slight feeling of uneasiness remained for Odyssa. Yes, so far peace seemed more secure, but they had not yet been everywhere to get the treaty signed. As a result she set off again with the Deara the two destroyers and Suha, who this time was accompanied by Kasu, in the Anagara, to investigate the farthest reaches of this universe. Two more Lizard communities signed the treaty and they were already asking themselves if they needed to turn around, when they were attacked by a small fleet of unknown ships. Both Kasu and Circe clouded their the squadron in protective spells, but the fire from the alien vessels took a lot of energy to ward off.

Looking at the glimmer of the embers in the fireplace which were now almost gone Garrus gathered his thoughts before heading up after Drew. Back in his room he looked around to find Drew lying on his bed, rolled together in the fetal position close to the wall, holding a pillow to his head, sobbing.

Fighting the Homm: part 14

Chapter twenty seven: the Lizard Amazons

Suha and Odyssa sparred every day from then on. At first it was only the human Amazons watching, but soon Taka, Gora and Zima watched too. It did not take long for Taka to ask if she could be taught as well. Odyssa, who was very satisfied with the quick learning of Suha, asked Suha, if she would mind doing some gentle exercises with Taka, so that she could watch the differences in how her body moved by comparison to herself and Suha. Of course now everybody was interested. Suha was very gentle with Taka, who had great difficulty to adjust to the speed, with which Suha was now moving. Odyssa was watching Taka’s every move, mentally noting how Taka had a completely different body balance, which made it almost impossible for her to match Suha’s movements, but that was what she evidently thought she had to do. Odyssa stopped them.

There were no empowered healers who could get there quickly. None, in fact, were known who could be there any time within the next several hours. Malak and Blackpool were both out of touch, but expected back soon. Meanwhile, Arielle would have to depend on mundane medicine.

I'm sorry this is a bit late. I kept feeling dissatisfied and re-writing. It felt too passive. Finally, as I lay in bed waiting for sleep, I realized a solution. I started on it first thing this morning. This is the result.

Chapter twenty five: the dawning of peace

Like all the other times before Odyssa awoke refreshed and full of drive. Elaria was refreshed, too and Circe, who had protected everyone with her spell just in case, was happy. Both kids were their usual self and so Gaia found a happy little family around her, when she finally woke up, too. Even though she had not recovered all of her strength it was obvious, that the planet was recovering fast. The flora had become abundant and so had the fauna. Gaia was wondering about that, as it had originally been Kronos, who had created the animal life. But when she looked outside more closely she saw Elaria in what could only be a conversation with some of the horses. She definitely saw understanding in the animals eyes, as Elaria was gently speaking to them. Gaia was fascinated. Who was this girl, whom Odyssa called Princess and her daughter?

They descended through the thick pour of concrete and steel into the cold, dank chamber. Domino's light did little to dispel the shadows in spite of the small space. There, in the center, on a stand, was the bomb.

"It's smaller than I was expecting," said Domino, sounding relieved.

Reflections: A Gamble

This is my first attempt at posting something on here so please forgive any mistakes in format or anything else.

Anyway here is a small teaser of a story that I have been kicking around for a bit. It’s still a bit rough but I figured let you’ll get a taste. It may be a little bit until I post the first chapter and really get underway I hope y’all enjoy.

Reflections: Gamble

Prologue

A cry rent the night from the depths of the palace a cry not of terror but of pain and joy, The princess had been born.

The Angel of Chicago: Part 14

I'm back, and at least to my admittedly biased eyes this now reads much better. I'm still having some problems with later sections, though that's mainly because the plot as it is now written is similar to a couple of my Masks plots. I may change it or just plunge ahead.

Anyway, I hope folks enjoy this.

Fighting the Homm: part 12

Chapter twenty three: a serious assault

Next Odyssa had the ships join Kan’s squadron and, since the Deara now really was the flagship of the fleet, she had the commanding officers convene in the ship’s canteen, the only place big enough for and assembly of that size. She introduced Suha to all the others and could see the look of pride on Kan’s face, as he realised her new uniform. He had made the right choice. Now Odyssa introduced them to her decisions about strategy. As she was used to lead from the front as the Queen of Amazons as well because of her unique ability to kill Homm, the Deara would take first place behind the skirmishers, whom she wanted Sala and LaSaDa to lead. Kan, Suha, Oda and Han, the commander of the fourth battleship were to engage the battle with their respective destroyers and bring it to whatever ships the Homm would throw at them, while Odyssa would take the Deara past the enemy line and assault their base on the target planet. The assault would only stop once the enemy leader and or the creator of the Homm was dead.

With a loud crack and a flash of light, a portal formed right next to the half-siblings. While this was totally unexpected to them, at least this time they knew what was likely happening. Someone walked through the opening that looked eerily like a hole in space.

The Synthodyne Conspiracy

Brent Daniels’ life is going nowhere fast until one day everything changes when he discovers his parents’ disappearance six years earlier might have been something more sinister than he realized.

As he tries to discover the truth, he uncovers a global terrorist plot, however, his capture by the terrorist organization will leave him questioning everything he ever held of value.

The Angel of Chicago: Part 13

One reason I didn't set this in the Masks universe was I wanted to explore a different set of circumstances behind people with powers. Part of that difference is that this world is darker than the Masks world. The villains are savvier, the crooked politicians more successful, the press less fair. The differences have been minor so far. Be warned that the next few segments will be pretty dark.

Chapter twenty one: offensive moves

Odyssa’s patience was not put to too hard a test. It only took the equivalent of four days to complete fitting the rest of Kan’s squadron as well as all of Odyssa’s remaining ships and fighters with everything necessary. Ara had called back another squadron for a refit and Odyssa had decided to wait to be able to meet another admiral before setting off again. Her intuition proved itself another time. She purposefully kept to the background, as Ara greeted the squadrons commanders and the admiral, only to find, that the first thing the admiral did was to challenge Ara’s authority. Dressed in just her Amazon suit and armour she slowly moved towards the group to listen more closely.
