A Day Without Pain

A Day Without Pain

A Hatbox Short by Melanie E.

"It's the least we can do."

That's what they had said when they had come into his hospital room, clipboards in hand and curious, though not unkind, looks in their eyes.

It was natural for those who were healthy to be curious about the dying after all, and that was exactly what he had been doing, slowly and agonizingly, for the last three years.

It had started out innocuously enough, with a twinge in his temple when he would stand up or turn his head too quickly. The twinge had turned to a spike, and the spike into a burning lance, piercing his head with every movement.

For years he had devoted his life to becoming one of the most promising young talents in the computer technology world.

He felt it somewhat ironic that he would die not being able to stand looking at a monitor for more than five minutes without a morphine drip in place.

Quest for the Silver Cleric

Danica finds herself in a strange world with new languages, cultures, personalities and challenges on a quest to find The Silver Cleric.

TransGenderElla book cover

An old fairy tale turned on it's head;

All transgenderella wants is to be herself and go to the ball, but her evil stepmother has other ideas. When Transgenderella stands her ground, insisting that it's time to come out, she is torn down and left crying in her room as her two stepsisters are whisked away to the palace. With the aid of her fairy not-quite God Mother, Transgenderella is transformed into the woman she always was, but is that enough to bring her happiness.

Summa Cum Laude

“It isn’t noble to be different. I’m not a hero because I’m who I am any more than I should be the target of hate for being me.”

He pushed at an errant curl. He had argued with his mother about the length of his dress . . . more out of habit than any difference over what was appropriate for a graduation speech.

“Our society wants everything to fit neatly on a spectrum with one end being preferred over the other. The fact that I’m different from many of my classmates doesn’t make me better or worse . . . just different.”

small amount of progress

I just wanted to reassure whatever number of readers I have left I am trying to get some writing done despite some lack of spoons.

Not sure when I'll have something to publish, but I'm inching along ...

A puzzling thought about LGBT

An idea has been percolating inside my slightly warped brain. Well, maybe I'm a quite a bit warped. You decide.

When I was a kid sixty years ago there was little evidence of LGBT. I only knew of Christine Jorgenson and in the sisties a movie 'I want what I want'.

Anyway, here is my weird hypothesis:

With the rapidly burgeoning world population and the seeming lack of will to control it, perhaps the swelling LGBT ranks is simply a bit of natural selection to curb population growth. LGBT couples could adopt the unwanted/excess births to fulfill family desires.

Muse attack!

So I have apparently been attacked by my unruly muse yet again. Mind you i'm not exactly complaining but when I finished the last installment of "Gaia's Children" I had to sit there and wonder just how long it would take for the final chapter of "Murder in the Holy City" to drop off the front page so i wouldn't be bumping myself.

Being a rather impatient sort, I gave all of about 30 seconds thought to that before I decided I didn't really actually care if I bumped myself off(Unless of course some moderator was willing to bend a rule just a teensy little bit).

A funny thing hit me about Social security!

A funny thing hit me about Social security!

In both of my fan fic's My characters much like Fey/ Nikki or Gwen/ Absinthe or Sara/Carmilia

they have VERY long life spans and like those above---JOBS!
so they all pay into USA based Social security! Via that "job"

So when they hit age 65 or 67 or maybe 70?

Will they get a retirement check for the next 50,000 years or more!

Elves and GOO on Social security Benefits and medicare forever!
That would mess up the national budget some!

Who here has not suffered from identity theft or bank fraud.

Recently a co-worked had jury duty she showed up and was in a jury pool. Before the lawyers got to ask questions the Judge asked "has anyone here Suffered from Identity Theft, Credit Card Fraud, or Bank Fraud? Since it is So common the court will not be harsh if you do not admit it but please do." Well Only 3/4 of the potential Jury Panel raised there hand. The Defense Lawyer was mot happy with so few panel members being left and complained. That his client could not get a fair trial with so few people to draw from.

Bottom of the barrel

The past few days I have been trying t write my next story. It was going great until I saw that I had done most of it already and can't find a new angle of attack for the story. I am well and truly stumped. I keep going but it's not coming out how I wanted to. I am getting to where I need to go but it's not flowing how I'd like and worse it might sound disjointed with additional conversations that don't belong in the story.

River - Chapter 3

River - Chapter 3

By Dawn Natelle

River is nearly all girl now, and is anxiously awaiting the events of the morning, where she will attempt to stem the flood of teen suicides that are happening in First Nations settlements across Canada, including the River Reservation. At least she hopes to solve the problem locally.

Deep under a low mountain, in one of the most secure sections of the Assembly's base, a bizarre ritual was performed. A ritual days in the making, due to the esoteric and unusual preparations involved. The participants were both serious and uncertain.

"Frankly, this is beyond me," said Sharma, finally. She looked over at Dr. Piano.

"It's a god complex," he said, nodding. "Rather, a demigod complex. Indeed very much like a Gift, as Paula guessed."

Identity Crisis - Chapter 4/10: Victoria's Secret Identity

Chris's rocky relationship with his superhero mentor leads him to consider alternatives. But his real troubles begin at home when his parents discover the stash of girls' clothes he's been using to maintain a secret identity as a heroine and they jump to awkward and embarrassing conclusions about his clandestine activities.

The change

Hello, this is my first story, hope you like it. More parts will be added.

Hello my name is John. I am 16 years old. It's just me, my mom Bryley and my sister Sarah. I sometimes wear my sister's clothes when nobody is home.

One day though my mom and sister went out shopping so I went in to my sister's room. I got her skirt and high heels and a top. When I got dressed I heard my mom's car pull up.

An Ode to 'Innocence;'

Based on a story by StacyInLove

Before I started to write my own fiction, I practiced by writing a piece based on a story by StacyInLove called "Innocence" I quite enjoyed. I obtained StacyInLove's kind permission prior to publishing it. I hope it does a very cute little story justice. And a big thank you and hug to StacyInLove for letting me do this. -- AuP

Rodford Edmiston

The two men were long-time friends, though they were normally separated by an ocean and a continent. It wasn't often these days that the Guardsman - who was based in California - and the very British Walrus met in person. This was one of those times and they were putting it to good use.
