TopShelf's Summer Romance 2010 Story Contest Contest Closed! Voting to Begin Monday July 19, 2010 until Sunday July 25, 2010. Announcement of voting procedures on Monday. Contest Submissions to Date (click here) |
This year's Summer Romance Contest is going to be a little different from our past 2 years. I would like to narrow the theme down some. In this year's contest the theme will focus on the development of love between two people, one of which is either intersexed, transgender, transvestite, lesbian, gay or bi. The environment of the story should revolve around either school, work, or some sort of trip. The era should be between 1900 - 2025 (^^ Keeping things within the 20th - 21st Century). This Contest will last a total of eleven weeks for submissions (Absolutely no rescheduling of the deadline for any reason - winners need to be announced and Sephrena will be mailing the awards out to the designated winners). The voting will occur over a 7 day period by registered site users only and only 1 vote per user. The 3 top stories will be awarded a prize designated as follows: 1st place - $80, 2nd place - $60, 3rd place - $50. The winners will need to pm Sephrena with their mailing address to mail them their money. All prizes will be mailed the day after the winners announcement.
Rules for the contest are as follows:
Must be fiction.
Can be a short story, a poem, a novel, a piece of any length. To enable fairness to everyone, No chapters of ongoing serials will be allowed. This is to level the playing field for all author entries and for the readers to decide.

Marking Your Story - There will be a selection in the +fiction page under CONTESTS entitled "Summer Romance Story Contest 2010" to mark your story with. PLEASE CHECK TO ENSURE THAT YOU MARK YOUR ENTRY.
Number of Submissions - Any author may submit any number of new entries that are validly marked in the contest box, but only one entry per author will be counted in the final totals, the one that gets the top number of votes from that author will be the one counted for purposes of determining winners.
Voting Dates - Voting period will be for 1 week only between July 19, 2010 until July 25, 2010. Voting is limited to REGISTERED site users only. Voting Procedures to be announced on Monday July 19
Tie-breaking - In the event of a Tie for any position, Erin, Sephrena and the involved winners will discuss a suitable resolution between the placed winners and/or issue additional prize monies. The results of the contest will be posted within 24 hours of the declared winners and all prize resolutions will be announced along with the winners.
Prizes - 1st place - $80, 2nd place - $60, 3rd place - $50. All money prizes are awarded in US dollar value via money order mailed to the designated winners. Question withdrawn, as there are other aspects in play that will prevent me from entering with the proposed story. I might put something else together if my muse cooperates though :-D

I've finally come up with an idea for this contest. It's real bare bones right now, but I think I might just get it done in time. If it goes the way I want, it'll be something new for me. Hopefully that won't mean it totally sucks! ;)
I love these contests. Thanks for prodding our collective muses! :)

Well dear it won't even partially suck!
Unless you go absolutely bonkers and refuse to use nouns or verbs, I'm sure you'll provide us with something wonderful, yes?

If a multi-part story
is begun and completed within the specified dates, is it a valid contest entry?
Susie
The answer is - yes
as long as the entire story is completed by the end date, that is fine.
Deadline
I think I've asked this question before, but is 12 midnight July 16 the time that comes after 11:59 pm July 15, or 11:59 July 16?
