I knew it was a big mistake to go on stage again after I had stopped touring when Covid-19 struck. The last two years had been the best of my life and I had absolutely no wish to resume my stage career as Daisy Sweetheart, the soppy singer/songwriter. Especially since it was obvious that this concert would be a disaster. I hesitated before going onstage but my manager gave me a shove and I walked out there. If only I hadn’t swiped that book from my sister five years earlier.

Chapter 11 Even When You’re Weak…

The long term finally came to an end and we prepared for Christmas. The school social was a much quieter affair this time around and they had booked a normal band. Okemia and her parents had gone away for a few days and didn’t attend and Aiko and I ended up dancing with several boys from the fifth year that she had made friends with and I had a good time.

We had arranged for them to come after school on the Wednesday and we were all quivering with excitement by the time they arrived. I had gone to the school entrance to guide them to the gym and I must say that they were all more beautiful in the flesh.

Chapter 4 And Now is a Spotlight…

One of the common aspects of a J-Pop performance is usually the large number of bodies on stage. The band had two keyboard players, guitar, bass, drums and two singers. There were eight of us and Aiko with her four other cheerleaders so we had to fit the twenty into whatever space we were provided.

That was something I had not seen coming but, on reflection, it made perfect sense. Anu did not need to prove again that he was a great singer and proving that he was also a great actor to those who panned Bollywood films as just fluff would be irresistible.

We were all tired by the end of the day and wrapped it up so we could have dinner. Anu had told the hotel that we would be working so we did not want dress-up meals. It was an animated bunch that sat down to eat. Anu was flanked by Anna and Joyce while I had Gaurav and Jill.

Anna was the first to recover her wits. She put her hand on Anus’ arm and said “Well, dear. It seems as if you have total control, finally. I think we should start by getting a check-list and then work through it. I think that this is going to be a fun year.”

The Head of Studio was now starting to turn grey and Mr Singh called over the hotel manager, saying “Sam, do you think you can help our friend there to his room and then get someone to help him pack. Then, I think, you can call a cab and see him off the premises.”
