Yep, for some obscure reason the UK celebrates May Day

The 'holiday' weekend started okay weatherwise but its been more typical Bank Holiday weather today, damp and miserable and tomorrow is looking a bit drier but still yeuh! Not that it bothers me, its not like i do anything on holiday weekends, in fact my policy is to avoid doing anything, after all, who wants to join all those crowds doing stuff just because it is a Bank Holiday!

So what have i been up to during the dying days of April? Well Thursday my wheels took me to the seaside for a spot of lunch - i was a bit disappointed in the end, my burger came in a clearly once frozen breadcake that fell to bits and added nothing to the meal - shan't order that again. It was a fairly nice day, not too windy and i finished the ride with 106km.

Friday saw me doing a shopping trip, food for the weekend and more plants for the green patch - we might even get a strawberry or two later in the year! Then it was time to hit the interweb, book my bike weekend in York, order some bike stuff so i can go to York, etc, etc.

Saturday had the best forecast of the weekend so it was a no brainer to head out on two wheels. This time it was up onto the slab that makes up the Cotswolds, a bitty circuit and when i found ny tea stop shut up and gone from this world, an essentially non stop ride. Another 100k but the slowest ride of the week, still in the mid 25kph area - the good bike really is 'good'!

And so to today. Well i fancied a roast beef dinner, its been a while since i've had one, so i spent the morning preparing and cooking!

I've made a crumble too but after a big dinner that will wait until later or even tomorrow!

I have now posted a new Gaby chapter, Musical Interlude is part 18 of Fame.

I'll be back on Wednesday with more musings, until then,
Tak,
Madeline Anafrid

More than 160 countries

More than 160 countries celebrate Labor Day and have May 1st as a holiday. The UK has just eight permanent bank holidays, which is the second-lowest in the world. England has 8 , Scotland has and extra day, St Andrews day.

This year we have 9. Late spring bank holiday has been moved to Thursday June 2nd and Friday is an extra holiday for the Jubilee. So another long weekend.

I believe the USA has 12?

Myanmar has 32, Nepal 30, Iran 26, Sri Lanka 25, Malaysia 23.

That dinner looks wonderful BTW.

Comparing the UK to the USA

wrt the number of bank/public holidays is the last thing you should do. The USA is way behind the rest of the 1st world countries in so many things when it comes to working environment and rights.
- Paid vacation - you are lucky to get 15 days in the US.
- Universal Healthcare
- Maternity and Paternity leave
- paid sick leave
there are probably many more.
When you take the minimum 20 days of paid vacation and add the bank/public holidays, we are not doing so bad when compared to the USA. Now if you had compared us to say France then I would agree with you.
