That fake e-mail was so unhinged---with claims of a murder already committed and threats of a bloodbath to come---it sounds like the hoaxer was absolutely trying to get Ms. Sorrenti killed. To me it reads like a clueless person's attempt to mimic how a deranged "radical transgenderist" would talk, but I doubt the police would pick up the same cues I did. And even if they did they would still have to take a message like that seriously (to me Valerie Solanas's SCUM MANIFESTO reads like an over-the-top spoof of radical feminism, but then she went and shot Andy Warhol). So Imagine if it'd been real & they'd just futzed around making a few phone calls. It's always easy to second guess in hindsight what law enforcement should have done; but the decisions they had to make quickly about how to respond aren't ones I would care to have to make as a regular part of my job.

I hope they catch and throw the book at whoever did this to her, or maybe several books, all of them classics of transgender literature like the many fine titles available from Doppler Press. [See below]

I don't agree, they should indeed do the 15 minutes of research before going off half cocked and 'taking her down'.

Why should they think she is any more unstable than anybody else?

Would they have reacted the same way if somebody had claimed ol' Orange Face had sent threats and emails that he will Swat the United States, who would've believed him. Actually on hindsight .....

There was clearly a predilection towards believing a transgender person is somebody who can easily be unhinged whereas if the person being swatted was say the Police Chief's daughter, well THEN they will be very careful and ask politely first. In the mean time, maybe the Police Chief's daughter was actually unhinged and they took too long to investigate. Then what?

It is a B.S. double standard.

I would hope they would take any threats alleged to have been made by Old Orange Face very seriously. He's demonstrated being utterly delusional, sociopathic and paranoid for years and I wouldn't trust him not to launch all the nuclear missiles in the US arsenal and burn up the whole world out of insane spite if he had the power to and thought he was going down.`

Transphobia and ignorance might have played a role in the police's readiness to consider her a viable threat---I don't know, there's a definite cop mindset regarding certain minorities but it's not universal among them and I'm not a mind reader---but I can only hope that some day they won't...

As a person that has followed and watched

I have followed Clara and several other Transgender streamers on twitch for several years. I have seen this happen several times, but also to others as well.

I had a Veteran Friend in TX just this last week attempted to be swatted, just because she was raising money for another streamer in an abusive relationship and trying to help them get away. Lucky for her they went to her family's house first and she was called and nothing happened.

I have had my next door neighbor swatted, I do not know why, but I opened the door to my apartment to about 20 Swat Team Members in my hallway and they started to yell at me.

I stream myself from time to time mainly for DnD and for Veterans Charities. I have worried about this happening, because I am open and out in the community, but I have taken some precautions.

I do not see it being easy for the Police to be able to do much about this unfortunately. Emails are to easy to make and pending on where they are made are even harder to track. But something needs to be done.

What they do not go into in the article is what it has cost her since then. All of her streaming gear was taken and she was not able to work basically for almost 2 weeks. Then her fear for her safety and everything to go with that. It was not just someone trying to get her killed, which has happened to twitch streamers in the past with being swatted. But also trying to get her to stop doing what she enjoys doing.

Very odd.

"a-holes.(not a very British term) When this is over this entire city will remember my name. I have killed my transphobic mother and today ( you would have thought the police could have checked this first? ) I will be going out to city hall (Who in the UK use the term "City Hall"?) and shooting every cis-gendered person I see with a gun I illegally acquired,” " You just said you shot your mother and them you are telling them about a illegal gun? it is laughable, but they should have fact checked it before acting.

I'm surprise they didn't include that she would be parking on a yellow line and not paying the congestion charge too.

Sorry for the confusion. She is in London, Ontario (in Canada), not the UK. I would have said that more fully in the title, but it was getting pretty long and I didn't know what the character limit was.
