Nice contrast of color and ease of use. Thank you!

I like it, I like it!

I think it looks great. I also like the fact that it shows me which ones I've read already as well.

Looks great!

I can already see that I'll get a lot of use out of it. The only problem I see...is that I'm so far behind on my reading that the last things I read are way off the list! ;)

Looks Good

I think it looks good.

Now I just have to get used to using it. I keep forgetting and scroll down the page.

A minor nitpick.

Okay, first of all, I really love the feature!
But, there is always a but...

This morning (8.00 AM local) I booted up my PC and have noticed a recent post - Venus Touch VI
I went to study in the university
This afternoon (4.15 PM local) I returned, booted up my PC and this post is way down below near the end of the page, and nowhere to be found on Quickcuts
I found this a little unsettling. For reference, it is now 4.45 PM local

I guess it shows the most recent additions, and of serials - only the latest chapters. However, with our daily updates some chapters may go MIA on QuickCuts way too fast for comfort. Is there a way to remedy this, Erin? I know you have a site management policy that there should be no more than 2 chapters on the same story on front page at the same time, and I approve of it. Having no more than 1 chapter of a story on quickcuts at the same time for mee is a little to restricting in comparison. It is just me, I appreciate everything you do for us, don't be mad, pweeese! ;)

Where you can fool around like you want to and most you get is some bemused good ribbing!

Chapters

That's relatively easy to handle. When I find that has happened to me, I simply click on the latest chapter and then select the one I really want to read from the list in the right-hand column. The pointers at the bottom of each chapter then lead you on to the next one, and so on.

The big problem comes when the whole thing has scrolled so far down you've forgotton what it's called :) I think that's what Bookmarks are for.

Hope this helps,

Penny

*smiles friendly*

I know it. The only problem that may arise is that it may be a homungous dosens-of-chapters-long story! ;)
Besides, there is an easy option of visiting Latest 3 Days link from More Shortcuts post and voila! Hmmm, is there a Quickcuts list in there? Needs checking! *scampers away merrily*

*comes back in a rush, gushes* It's awesome! Exactly what I meant! Squee!

Devil's Advocate

laika's picture

Isn't this just a repeat of what you find below on the front page, only with artwork and intro blurbs?
I liked the little grid of boxes you had a while back better for some reason,
though I guess that was kind of a hassle to keep updated.
Maybe if it was more colorful I would like it better.
Say that brigher aqua from the Shortcuts box
with a contrasting border or something;
but I'm kind of a magpie about
bright colors & shiny stuff...

Simple and less busy

erin's picture

Yes, it's just the first 20 stories on the front page, or less. And the it isn't colorful or busy with artwork because the rest of the front page, is. :) I've tried to make it as readable as I can without taking up too much space. I did try aqua and tan as the bg colors but the pink and sky seem to work better. I don't have the margins quite where I want them yet but there's already about six hours work in this. :)

P.S. I switched it back to mint and buff, just to see what people think. I may change it back to pink and sky if no one says anything that they think this is better.

Erin

Looks Good, but Just One More Thing

I wasn't crazy about the quick cuts when I first saw them, but the feature is growing on me. It would be cool to have the story teaser appear as a mouse hover over box (says the person who has no clue how much work that would be).

Thanks Erin. Nice add.

Little more work than I want to tackle

erin's picture

And it would slow the site down because of how much code you would be loading just for the top part of the page.

Sorry.

It's Ok Fine

You never now until you ask. Thanks for the response. The feature is good just the way it is.

Since you asked

Breanna Ramsey's picture

It really doesn't do anything for me. Except in the case of a very few authors, I don't click on a story unless I can see a synopsis and the tags to get an idea as to whether it will interest me. All this does is require me to scroll down more, sorry.

Oh, well

erin's picture

Can't please everyone, and it's no taller than the taller of the old shortcuts. But surely if you see a new chapter of a story you're following, you don't wait to see the blurb before opening it?

Hmmmm...

laika's picture

You saw my objections (Needs more neon! It's new, I don't like it! Ewwwww, the juice from my spinach is running into my mashed potatoes!), but come to think of it I did use the thing when I saw VENUS TOUCH 8, so hmmmmmm...

And even if I never come to like it, it's fairly innocuous. One thing on the "dislike" side of the page while there's 1000 things on the "I LOVE IT!" side regarding this story site I think of as home:)
~~~hugs, Laika
Ooooooh purty!!
laika's picture
Love the alternating pale blue and white bands that appeared here suddenly 10/14!
That's what I was sorta talkin' about, tho subtler (+ better)than my flashing day-glo idea.
.
(Or am I hallucinating this?)
Um, no
Breanna Ramsey's picture
But I don't really 'follow' stories. Except in a few rare cases, I read single post stuff or wait until all the parts of a story are posted before I start it. It's not a big deal though; I can scroll down more.
