A year already?!

Wow, it's already been a year since I registered here (my first story went up only eleven days later, seems like it was longer than that...)! Time really has flown by this last year. I've actually been a regular visitor here for three or four years longer than that, but I'm shy. ;)

I still feel bad about the VC debacle. I mean, I was posting a chapter every day for a couple of months, and then most days for a while longer, and then nothing for two or three months! I should have been able to do better than that. And I still haven't developed a real buffer since then, even though I've restricted myself to one post a week (Not counting April Fools;). I just haven't been very motivated most of the time (and not just in regards to writing), except when my muse really gets going. And I've been a lot busier than usual, too.

It probably doesn't help any that I have so many stories going at once. I'm still trying to finish off POWYHL. I've still got to get Toil & Trouble caught up with the main VC story line so I can get it and the remaining side stories going again. Then there's always Kittyhawk and its occasional side stories. And now the spinoff Chrysalis. Then there's Boys Will Be Boys, The Arena, and Chronicles of Mana. And I've got a few other projects that I've started that haven't gotten to the posting stage yet. And a few others that I haven't started mostly because I have too much on my plate already!

I must be a masochist or something...

Anyway! Enough griping. Despite my failings I'm really enjoying my activities here. And reading, that's always fun, too! ;) So here's another big Thank You! to Erin and everyone else who helps keep this site running for all of us! And another to all the other authors who contribute so many wonderful stories! Oh, and let's not forget the readers who read our stories and sometimes even say nice things about them! ;)

Thank you, everybody!

Saless

You're 100% Right

There was a story in the mainstream press the other day about what an author does to sell his books. The particular author went from bookstore to bookstore pressing his book into prospective buyers' hands. When the article's writer checked into the situation he found the author sold enough books to keep going as a writer, but was a long ways from making himself rich. When pressed for a reason why he spent so much time and energy pursuing a subsistence level career the author said he was simply trying to find readers.

I often pooh-pooh the importance of votes, comments, and hits, but I never underestimate the need for some kind of affirmation that someone, someplace reads what we write and actually "gets it".

We have been GIVEN a place where we can actually reach readers. It's not a perfect place. It's full of human beings with all their foibles. BUT . . . it does provide readers.

The alternative is to self-publish and push our books into people's hands. I do that. I've self-published three novels and have pushed copies into as many peoples' hands as I can. When they tell me they actually have read them I'm moved to tears of joy.

Never underestimate how important this site is to the suthors. And, never lose vigilence in the effort to keep this site working. That requires financial donations, story donations, comments, votes, and READERS.

Still remember your first steps

I think I decided to give a look on POWYHL, part three at the time, then, decided to read it all, and... got hooked! I never regretted a moment of it.

And as for many stories going at the same time - that's simply one of symptoms of corbinism, it's not dangerious! ;)

I've been hanging around for a similar time frame, similar registration time, and in that time I've published... Nothing yet.

Extenuating circumstances tugged me away, I've scrapped two projects now, reanimating the first one recently after reviewing some of Angela and Holly's advice from that period. So don't be too hard on yourself! :-D

Also, I fully support and echo your sentiment about BCTS. I've belonged to many online communities over the years. This is the first one that's felt like 'home' in a long time. :-)
