Troubles with choice

I found out this morning that I have to go to a formal (dress code is: smart) dinner on Saturday evening, so I made an appointment to get my unruly tresses tamed (sounds better than getting a haircut) first thing on Saturday - my hair won't be tidy, it never is - it's very fine and flies about like tissue paper in the slightest draught.

Now, the difficult bit - choosing what to wear. For those of you thinking that living full time would be nirvana, beware - it's a living hell. Between now and Saturday I will have tried on virtually everything that could be considered suitable - except I won't be able to find the bit I need to make it perfect. I will have trashed my wardrobe pulling things out and dumping them on the bed - eventually pulling my hair out as well as crying my eyes out - plus the odd tantrum. This one or that? Dress or separates - the Laura Ashley or the Jaques Vert, the green or the red, which shoes, how high, accessories - beads or shiny things. Will it be warm in there or cool - do I need a jacket, how far will I have to walk from the car?

Which perfume and what makeup will I use? Will I have time to paint my nails assuming I don't break them between now and then? Do I wear my new lingerie under my 'smart' outfit.

And you think you have it bad now - I tell you, it's so much harder as a woman for everything, so those of you in doubt - don't do it, it's so tough making these decisions. Life and death is easy - you get it wrong and no more worries - get this wrong and people won't talk to you again (okay, that's a fib, but it sounds good).

Annoyingly, it's the CTC AGM and dinner and they've banned lycra from the dinner, which is a shame - I've got a nice new cycling shirt I could wear. So instead I'm tearing my hair out trying to decide what looks least awful or hides my fat tummy best. Oh decisions, decisions...

AGM

I won't be at this one, but I was at the very fractious last one.Best of luck.....

formal dress

It is always nice to have a formal dress with an inner lycra shell liner to hold the tummy in.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

I didn't bother with the dinner at the last one, never do, so a group of us went for a curry. Lycra was worn! Of course, sopme of us suspect the 'management' wants to ban cycling from the agenda, never mind lycra...

Troubles with choice

Tummy fat? Why not wear the lycra under a sweater?

Dinner wardrobe choices.

I went to a stiff collar fund raiser Saturday last. Knowing that there would be some high rankers there they made my choice for me. I wore pink and mauve Abaya with mauve and grey hijab. It is quite impressive, being hand sewn in Saudi Arabia, and was a gift from a certain well thought of tribe there. For Muslimahs, wardrobe choices are so easy. LOL It was a gift from a girlfriend who had once been a fling of one of the ibns of the tribe. Her giving it to me was intended to be an insult to him.

you'll look fantastic, I'm sure

yeh, its tougher than just throwing on a a suit or tux, but honestly, would going that way be any fun?

If I did

I'd feel like I was cross dressing.

Cor, I need to show you how to feel empowered with attitude.

Lets see, you are post op, but wear scrubs mostly ? I wish I could somehow give you the mask of confidence I wear. I usually just block everything out and use a mantra, "I am getting away with this, so they can get over it, and if not they can go to hell." I always wear floor length skirts and a top that is longer than my hips and slightly flared. It gives the illusion that I have good legs and an actual real butt. :) A nice wig and a bit of lippy, and your ready to go dancing.

I don't think it's formal...

But I would wear a skirted suit. I don't have any formal clothes. I have a suit with a lower-calf length skirt; I don't know if skirt length would matter or not. I think all that you want/need is something that doesn't make you feel, or seem to others, under dressed.

Do you think the organizers, etc. are expecting something like a more grown up, long prom dress? It doesn't seem right that the men wear "serious looking" clothes, but the wimyn are expected to wear some very fem looking confection; like an evening gown worn by a beauty pageant contestant. Since you are a doctor, I think you have the right to also wear a nice, "serious looking" business suit.

"Smart" dress code

Smart means clean sneaks and no holes in the jeans.
Oh.. and *not* a message t-shirt. Plain colors only.

Today, I'd have too...

Today, I'd have to wear my plaid/prince charlie jacket/etc... It's black tie - and at least it's not trews.

Perhaps one day, I'll have an opportunity to wear something nice... Unfortunately, not any time real soon...

You know something WORSE than your headaches? Watching the other girls/ladies in your wife going through all that when you can't participate, other than to lend an opinion or pay the bills. :-( Yeah, been there, done that, too.

*sighs* Sounds like you've a challenge ahead of you lady! :-) Rise to the occasion and have a great time!

Can't say I've ever been to a 'dress tidy' do.

All the places I go to usually require something respectable for the early evening and then look out!

The late night bits are usually outrageous and as everybody knows, (See under.)

Fashion guru, I aint!!

Bev.

P.S.

Did you get your cycling shirt in Aldi? (The pink and white one with the pretty flower detail!) I did.

Growing old disgracefully.
