Drumroll please..... And the answer is: Justice Prevails

Printer-friendly version

I mentioned a few months ago I stopped and picked up a woman who was being beaten by her husband.

Some of you might remember, in March my wife DJ, and I, stopped at the side of the road and asked a woman who was being beaten if she wanted a ride. The case was supposed to be heard in court last week. DJ and I were subpoenaed to testify. The night before the trial, the DA and the defendant's attorney got together and settled on the criminal charges. He pleaded guilty, in hopes of receiving a lighter sentence. He will be in jail for at least a year.

I don't know all the details, but, it was a victory for the victim. He went to jail, and she did NOT have to appear before a judge and jury. An unfortunate reality in this type of case, like in rape cases, the victim is often victimized again in court, during the trial of the perpetrator.

She wasn't, and he went to jail.

Thank God this part of her life is over.

Wish more can end that way

Sometimes the good guys do win as, like it or not, it is still harder for a woman to walk away as it is mostly women who give up their livelihood and stay home to raise her family, relying on a man who may turn on her. And then she is trapped.
