My beloved father in law died this morning between 0630 and 0700 Sat Feb 23rd, peacefully in his sleep, in his own bed and with his family around him. He was desperate never to be 'put in a home' and that wish was fulfilled.

Aged 93, heavily dosed with morphine to ameliorate the pain of osteoporosis of the spine.

He was my surrogate father and I shall miss him like crazy!!!

Edward George Walters., G.M., (George Medal,) RIP.

So sorry for your loss

Your father-in-law must have been quite a man in his day. But then you are one tough lady yourself from what you've told us of your life.

A George medal is a special honor, a great honor. As I understand it the highest honor for bravery a civilian can receive in England. The only higher honors are the Victoria Cross or a Victory Cross and Bar -- IE *winning* more than one VC...EXTREAMLY RARE. And the recipients of either of those awards are most often dead from the act that won them that recognition.

Your family agreeing to his wishes to die at home is proof of your love.

It will get better but don't forget him.

Only reminds me that all our lives are limited and that someday it will be my almost 86 year old father or myself, 55, times to pass.

P.S. Now YOU hang around on Earth for a while. No *passing* on us any day soon. Got it?

Thank You JiW!

John,

Thank you for clarifying the George Medal. Mr. Walters had to have been something special. What was that remark about being glad such people have lived?

Please accept our deepest sympathy Beverly

93 is a good innings, may he now rest in peace.

Thinking of you.

I regret he was in so much pain...

but his passing would be how I would want to go. I am a firm believer that death is not the end, merely a transition. I don't know your personal beliefs, so I hesitated to say this. We morn for ourselves, and it hurts.

Sorry for you, Bev

My deepest condolences, Bev.

I know what he meant to you. The Earth has lost a hero, but Heaven has gained an angel. Celebrate his life, remember the good days. As long as he is remembered, he is never completely gone. From a Colonial who is proud and humbled to have known, however third or fourth hand, such a man.

Death is not the end, but the beginning

My deepest sympathies for you and all those who love him. It is never easy losing the ones we love, but he will live on in your memories and I believe he is now in a better, happier place where there is no pain or suffering. A place where he joins those who have gone on before and now waits for those coming after.

May God give you the strength to get through the pain of your loss.
