Well, because I'm an idiot, I've managed to lose most of the hearing in my right ear.

It happened during my horrible cold - I blew my nose, and apparently damaged my ear drum. I've been hoping it would come back on its own, but no such luck, I'm basically deaf now in my right ear.

To add to my difficulties, I seem to be headed for a depression, so life could be more wonderful

The ear drum will heal.

You need to have the doctor check everything out. You might have an infection.

Portia

hearing

I agree with Portia wholeheartedly get your round butt to a Dr.NOW I lost most of my hearing due to a military operation & have the worse case of tinitis you can imagine, the ringing never stops & I miss a lot of conversations because of it ..Had I been treated promptly & properly ,it wouldnt be near so bad..... So this is the voice of experience speaking when I say Please get to a Dr & dont wait Please??

Yes Papa

Dottie is being a bad girl!

Actually I think she has a half infection in the ear half plugged with ear wax myself.

That sucks.

It's very possible you've blown mucus into your ear. It happens when people blow their noses sometimes. It'll clear out on its own but it'll be damn annoying and frustrating before it does. Rest assured though that your hearing will come back. It could be several weeks though.

Please, Dorothy, See your doctor!

Or, at least go to the 'Doc. in a Box' (Immediate Care Center). Don't ignore something so potentially serious.

Our prayers are with you

I think you see you've got lots of friends here, and hopefully a good support network in real life too. You've already gotten lots of advice to see your doctor about your ear, and I'll second that. But also take care of the depression. Talk to your doctor about that, and do what you can to avoid it.

Best of luck to you, and please try to get better,

Lord, what fools these mortals be!

Chorus

Please Dot go and see that doctor! As someone who has bad hearing, if there is any chance of lessening the problem, go and do it! I wear hearing aids and they can never give you back what has been lost. They can only make it less bad. My hearing has been one of the biggest stressors in my marriage. There are occasions when you just can't wear the damn things and often those are the most intimate times.

If it is an ear infection, taking care of it now will save you time lost from being sick at work.

I know how tight money can be, but this is not a time to worry about it. Go to the Doctor!

PS: Think of all the whispered words from your loved ones you'll never get to hear if you don't take care of this. No, I'm not playing fair!

See your doctor.

That is not something you should just ignore & live with.
Hopefully it can be fixed. But also it could be a sign of some other problem. so please go get it checked out.

sorry it happened

You are NOT an idiot! Please don't degrade yourself. If was an accident and nothing more.

Definitely see your doctor. Also there is a drink you can make that will boost your body's ability to repair itself:

1/2 cup cottage cheese - with active cultures
1/2 cup milk -- skim milk was used in the clinical study, but any should work
2 Tablespoons Flax Seed Oil

Mix in a blender and drink 1 cup each day. It takes 3-5 months to notice the affects. But you should notice more energy along with better health. This was clinically tested in Germany for over 8 years with an 80% cure rate for terminally ill cancer patients. It also cured over 12 other diseases/ailments because it gives the body what it needs to heal itself.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but it can't hurt and may help in the long run.
