There was a funeral procession that passed though my home town today. It was for a fallen Soldier that lived in Connecticut. He was flown to Stewart airport National Guard base in Orange county, N.Y. All along the procession route at the various overpasses, located within my Fire District's coverage area we positioned a Fire truck and Emergency service personal to pay tribute to the fallen Soldier as the procession passed. I thought this was a very fitting thing to do and was proud to be a part of it. The irony of this is most people on the Interstate thought we were there for 9/11/01 remembrance, so I told my brother & sister firefighters to go with it and wave as they pass bye. Nearly every car, truck, big and small alike blew their horns and waved. I'm thinking maybe next year we'll do it again and that will be the reason for being there. Apparently it was much appreciated by folks for both reasons cause the Chief was inundated with calls of thanks. Just thought this was something I'd like to share with my family here. Big Hugs, Taarpa

Thank you

As a Combat Veteran I want to thank you both for the honor's you and your Department did today and for your service in the Fire Service.

As for Steward and the Newburgh NY area I am quite familiar with them. My father was originally slated to be the Post Commander at Steward Army Sub-post until they decided to assign him to the Facility Engineers at West Point. I spent three years living in that area graduating from James I. O'Neill HS in Highland Falls NY and pretending to go to school at Orange County Community College in Middletown NY. Then I decided that I was not going to do well in school so that is when I enlisted in the U.S. Army.
