NASA Flight Surgeon

Printer-friendly version

Fighter pilot, NASA Flight Surgeon, Alternate pilot for Space Shuttle, this amazing lady has "been there done that". But the one thing that makes me most proud of her unbelievable life story and amazing accomplishments..., She was true to herself.

And if you don't understand by reading her story, her birth certificate had M on it when she was born. Obviously a mistake don'tchu think!

If you use the Google search engine to find more about this amazing lady be prepared for the hateful comments on many of those links. We still scare the absolute bejeebers out of those who have such a slim hold on their own sexual identity they aren't sure what they are themselves. http://tinyurl.com/q4twj4x

There is another amazing damn gorgeous lady who was a NASA Engineer. I read her story many years back. I'll try and find her again and post the data if I do.

Enjoy life as much as you can. It's too darn short to take it too seriously. And if it ain't working for you. Poke it with a stick. I do. Be true to yourself if possible. Be smart, be careful, if you are one of the TG. There is still a whole lot of fear and hate out there looking for a target.

No Shortage of Stupidity

Though I really have experienced very little hate, except for my knuckle dragging family, many who are very public get pummeled regularly. This is sad.

(Former) Chief Scientist, NASA Ames Research Center

You are most likely refering to Stephanie Langhoff Ph.D. who in 2005 was the Chief Scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center.

My primary source is from Lynn Conway's Gallery of TS Successes. Unfortunately, several of the of-site links have not been updated and are broken.

Lynn Conway's story is full of heart-break but also success. It is worth your time to read (or at least browse) her website at http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/conway.html. Many pages have also been translated for those who can't read english.

Edit:

On further research I found a note on page 28 of the NASA News & Notes - Fourth Quarter 2013 that Stephanie Langhoff has retired after 15 years as Chief Scientist for the Ames Research Center.

I think you got...

I think you got some things crossed...

Dr. McGinn was a Doctor while in the Navy (A Flight Surgeon). The one time we got to chat, she said she'd never gotten to take a cat shot/trap as she worked with the helicopter squadrons.

Not to belittle her successes by any stretch as others have indicated... I think you're describing two different people.

It can be interesting

To see the paths some take on the way to their true selfs. One friend who's now a member of US Veteran Women's Saber team, took part of her "detour" through crash landing a jet fighter on a Navy carrier. She told me that after surviving that, transition wasn't nearly as scary.
