Stories to Read When You Have a Migraine?

I have a really nasty migraine right now. I have chronic migraines, and I don't know what to read. I can't do any serious work or exercise like this.

Personally, when I'm in pain, I like something which gives me hope. I like when characters I can relate to come through things all right. Of course, different people have different personalities, motivations, and neurotypes. I am autistic, and sometimes have trouble relating to characters at the opposite end of the allistic spectrum.

And, when I'm in brain fog, I like stories which are clear and clearly written, and don't require me to stop and search [e-reader is slow] for some past reference to make sense of the current scene, and aren't explorations of alternatives to the traditional narrative form.

Probably not the only one with a migraine, either.

One idea

Try Snowfall's Frills or Zoe Taylor's Magic of the Kingdom. I've found them easy to follow and easier to enjoy the characters in them!

There are 11 types of migraines

According to the neurologist I suffer from 9 of them. You have my sympathy.

I like to read Touch the Moon by Morpheus when I am suffering. Smoking a small bowl of a certain herb also is helpful. Relaxes the muscles and helps to dialate the blood vessels in the membrane surrounding the brain.

Good luck.

Most people will never know what a migraine is let alone what they do.

Me the involve my head splitting like a cord of firewood or like someone is using a jack-hammer on my head.
Vertigo so bad I can not stand at all without falling on my A$$.
the littles light feels like a spotlight shinning in my eyes.
A simple little sound is like a bomb going off.
etc...

The only experience I never get with one is nausea, lucky I guess.
the doctors are always shocked when i tell them about them they say men rarely ever get them it is not common at all.

I usually take a pain med and it nocks me out for a while, then when i come too its lessened but not gone.

I have actually had a continuos case of vertigo going for a month now, I don't drive and have to get a ride to work when i am capable of it.

I feel your pain, with me I always enjoy stories from a lot of our authors, it is always what fits the mood.

getting a migraine severe headache, from artificial sweeteners.

painkillers are completely useless, I just have to wait until that crap is out of my body. Usually 3 days.

it isn't a migraine, just an allergic reaction that feels like one.

Stupidity is a capital offense. A summary not indictable.

Vertigo

Migraine and vertigo, know the combination well. Dr. Banks informed me a couple years back the prescription I used to get for dizzy could now be purchased over the counter. It is motion sickness pills and it dries out the inner ear. Works by the second day for me. Ask your physician if it might be a possibility for for you.

when I started my allergy shots a little over 2 years ago I did not have a single migraine or any symptoms for a year, but 2015 did me in.
All I saw was record levels of pollen and mold so bad they had to change the scale level to account for the new high levels.

My doctor suggested I try a HEPA air filter, and I finally got one ordered if amazon gets it out today I should have it Sunday.
I know my issues are allergy related, I am allergic to every tree, plant and grass in the area except for Conifer trees, like Pine, and the other ever greens. If I can get things under control then my life might start looking up again.

The doctor just prescribed me a vertigo medicine, the problem is I have titrate up on it.

migraine

I'd advise not reading.

Dark quiet room, comfy be or couch, and a damp face washer over your forehead and eyes.

I have constant headaches,

I have constant headaches, and constant aura-like symptoms, so I can't tell when it's my usual headache or when it's another migraine until either nausea kicks on or the headache gets especially bad.

have you

ever had allergy tests?

I get truly horrific headaches, as severe as migraines but not actually a migraine, from artificial sweeteners. It is an allergic reaction to them.
You might be getting something similar happening giving you the headaches.

The Prescription I took for Migraine no longer available

BarbieLee's picture

Migraines are a life stopper for sure. I used to be able to take Norgesic Forte and Antivan in a one two punch to hold the migraine down to a tolerable level and still function. Norgesic Forte is no longer available. The substitute Orphenadrine Citrate doesn't even touch it. Pretty expensive for something that doesn't work. I've told my Dr. but so far when a migraine comes it is toss two excedrin, two tylenol combination at it every three or four hours and hold on until twelve or eighteen hours it fades away.

Norgesic Forte is Orphenadrine citrate with aspirin.

But Orphenadrine citrate is primarily used as an antibiotic and antibacterial drug. AFAIK migraines are not virus or bacteria related.
So maybe just old good aspirin will do?
PS: medical grade Orphenadrine citrate is just $40 per kg if you order 25 kg from the manufacturer ;-)

Migraine?

I'm not sure what i experianced was a migrane or not... especially since it happened only once, like 20 years ago...

I went to bed fine, but the next morning my roomate had to wake me (and he said it wasnt bloody easy either)

Soon as i opened my eyes i felt like someone stabbed me in the skull with an ice pick, from that moment on it was like the worlds worst headache. I've been shot before... i'd rather get shot again than have a headache like i experianced that day.
i cried from the pain... i couldnt focus on anything at all... and light... omg light was the WORST

I was taken to the ER (that's how dibilitating it was) and the Dr. just shrugged, called it a migrane and gave me a dose of Demerol* (spelling?) Slowly i got *VERY* happy (i LIKE that stuff, too much, i now tell Dr.s not to give it to me) after the drug wore off i felt compleatly fine.... everyone was suspicious that i had faked it all.

I've never experianced it again (thank god!) but to this day that was the most pain that i've ever had. And im not even sure what triggered it.

That is a synthetic Morphine.

It is many times stronger as well, The only time they gave it to me was after a car accident. One shot and all the pain just went away. it was fast as hell to.

I had a complete allergy test

I had a complete allergy test as a kid, but haven't been able to get anything beyond the most common lately, although I do have a lot of allergy trouble.

Allergies can change over time.

go to an allergist or immunologist to get testing done. I had it done and found out every tree, shrub, and grass is my area I am allergic to, except trees related to pine trees witch means conifers.

So how would I go about going

So how would I go about going to an allergist? (or to an occupational therapist who can help with sensory issues?) I can't get a referral from my general practitioner.

And what if none are accessible?
