The jury is in. Our collective apprehension about the contents of the pop up ads has been put to rest by experience. Whatever filtering process Erin is putting them through works just fine. Hope they put lots of pennies in the hatbox.

Ads

I don't recall any mention, but do we need to click on an ad for any money to accrue? With the Google ads, it requires someone to click on them before any money accrues, and thats like .01 each if I recall, maybe less.

By contract, I'm not allowed to tell you to click the google ads.

But on the other ones, in the left column. Click or don't click, I get paid by the day. If you click though, they are more likely to keep advertising and some of them lead to neat sites like webcomics and other fiction sites and some cute t-shirts or plush pets. :) I click on any new ones I see at least once and am using some of them to follow some pretty funny webcomics. Even discovered a couple of new TG webcomics I never heard of.

One of those is about a superhero whose girlfriend in a drag queen. :)

The current ads in the left column...

Are bringing in $1 to $1.50 per day, so that's not as much as the google ads but it's pretty good. :) And it seems to be getting more each day. I may add a few more. I've said no ads that aren't "work safe" and no ads with animation and have only had to kill two ads so far.

Concerns about advertising

I clicked on one of the ads maybe two before I paused long enough to look at the resulting urls.

The URL sent back to the advertising server... includes my homepage in the URL. This is a direct link to my RL world. I don't give this link to ANYONE. Yet I've been giving it out everytime I click on a link. I find this terrifying in the extreme.

Dayna.

ps. the links still work if you copy the link to the address bar and hack out your personal information. So I ask you. Is there any reason the advertisor needs to know my home page settings?
