Happy Stories

As Pollyanna had her 'happy verses', I have 'happy stories' . . .

That I read when I've had a bad time or am unhappy or just because. They are beloved favorites; stories I really don't even have to reread - I can just open to a place the book falls open and read because it makes me feel happy and better. Like "Born in Death" by J.D. Robb or "Scandal" by Amanda Quick or "Something Different" by Kay Hooper. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to be a complete story. For example, "Sum of All Fears" is not one of my favorite Tom Clancy novels, but there's a section in there where Caroline Ryan goes after the female National Security Advisor with verbal claws out and sharp at a Presidential Reception. Book even falls open to that part now.

In our genre, I have some stories that also fit into this "makes me happy" category, and I thought I would share some of them; in part to thank and recognize the authors and in part just to call 'em out as "really good stories!"

"Synaptic Overload" by Brandy Dewinter (on FM). Dinger cracks me up all the time and the dressing down the hero(ine) gets from a highly irate transformation artist wife? Love it! (and Brandy wrote it! It's HER story! She insisted I get partial billing for the author. I just think Dinger and I spoke to one another.)

"Bikini Beach: The Organlegger" by Ellie Dauber. Masterful story! Complex and positive.

"Modern Masquerade" by Tanya Allen (Kindle/Kindle Unlimited). A present day take on a classic regency romance novel by Georgette Heyer. The original was one of the first 'real' gender swap stories I ever read and I still have a dogeared, decaying copy somewhere. The new one is a worthy successor and a very fun read.

"Fashion Class" by Karin Bishop (Kindle/Kindle Unlimited). The ES's are great and the Prom Dress shopping scene with one of the Moms? Purrrrr.

"Rescuing Amy" by Paula Dillon. No one thing to point to, but I pull it out when I need a lift. Marvelous tale.

"Compromise" by Bleedingheartz (on FM). Love story in the 1950's movie tradition. Risk, obstacles, love conquers all. Cautionary note. One of the obstacles is that some in the family participate in some fully consensual and loving Female Dominant/Male Submissive play.

"To Make A Frittata, You Have To Break Some Eggs" by Armond (on FM). The hero(ine) in this one has this love hate thing going on with her new job and with the coven who transformed her. Her comments and self ruminations make me laugh.

"Kappa Delta Girls" by Daring Diane (Kindle/Kindle Unlimited). Another story that puts me in mind of a 1950's Doris Day RomCom with so much misdirection and folks going in circles that I want to yell "Hey! He's not really a girl!". Except, well, maybe she is . . sorta. And yes, my copy still says Kappa Delta. If you look for it online the title's been changed to protect . . . hmmm, no one I can figure, but it says "Kappa Delti Girls" at Amazon now.

"Erica: Walk In My Shoes" by Fran Cesca Marie Walker (on Turnaboutgurl.com). Another unusual love story with a madcap hero(ine) as the knight in shining satin, trying to win his lady love and finding new ways to express both love and hirself.

"The Pom Pom Fortress" by Alecia Snowfall (Kindle/Kindle Unlimited). A really grrreat story, but the part I go to when I really need a smile is the part where the cheer team shows up at the hero(ine)'s house and, among other things, lusts after her skirt and cast boobie spells on each other. Great writing of chaos unleashed.

Okay, this list is certainly not all inclusive but is a happy story start. and there are a whole bunch more stories that I have bookmarked, stockpiled, etc, for reading and rereading. Stories that are sexy hot, or for when I could use a good cry, or are super adventurous or . . . well, just because.

I hope you all have some wonderful 'Happy Stories" of your own to brighten a grey day or lighten a heavy mood.

warm furry hugs from the frozen north!

Happy stories here?

Tuck, probably in 1999 or even slightly earlier, I ran into Tuck in the old assttg board. I never looked back, actually that is where I met Aunt Jane. Because I read Tuck Seasons before I found Tuck by Ellen. Anyway, other happy stories here? Goodness, anything by Morpheous, pretty much the same with Elrodw and E.E. Nalley. Ellie Dauber too come to think of that. I've reread Penny Lane's SEE story and can hardly wait for the next installment. Not sure how I ended up at Chrystal Hall, but gosh the Whateley Verse has my full attention anytime something new pops over there.

I'd vote for most of Tiffany

I'd vote for most of Tiffany Shar's stuff.

I read those when I just want something that doesn't require effort, and doesn't bludgeon deeply into the 'evils that men do'.

Armond's stuff, yes - definitely.

Let's not forget "No Obligation" by Randalynn.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Let's see

There's Sara UK's You Have It All Wrong stories

Peaches by Angela Rasch - now on Amazon

Switching Playing Fields by Torey

Ken's Barbie - my favorite Aunt Jane story by Tigger

Becoming Robin by Zoe Taylor - a Doppler Press book

Dumb Bet and The CNA by Patricia Marie Allen

Jenny Walker's No Half Measure's

Karin Bishop's four book series On The Road Again

and there's more stashed on my Kindle that are gone from here like Dimelza Cassidy's stories.

Glad to see that two of mine made your list

I'm glad that two of mine gave you some pleasure. One of my favorites is "Trick of the Mind" By Maeryn Lamonte. I usually don't care for hypnosis in a story because I'm partial to voluntary protagonists, even if they have to warm up to the idea and hypnosis stories usually involve cisgender men being feminized unconsciously. Maeryn Lamonte portrays an already cross-dressing protagonist who reluctantly participates in hypnotist's act and ends up with an unreleased post hypnotic suggesting that won't go away. The real story revolves around how the protagonist deals with it.

Four on This Site...

Dollar Runaways, by Tiffany Shar, is the long story I've returned to most often.

The Hard Way is probably my favorite Tanya Allan story; found it originally on Sapphire's but it's also here.

Going There And Back Again, by Thwilent. Only story I'm aware of by that author; certainly the only one on this site.

Totally Insane, by Angharad.

Also Bru's short pieces, especially "We Can Neither Confirm Nor Deny" and "The Dinner Party".

I go back to the last two chapters of She of the Jade Skirt, by Sleethr and Draflow, occasionally.

(Elsewhere, I've gone through the Tuck saga a few times, though not recently. E.E. Nalley's Belle of the Ball on Sapphire's. Several of Bek D Corbin's short stories there: "The Price of Grace", "Threefold Returns", and also "Town and Gown" and "Out of the Woods", from the Jordan Winters series. Bek's "Hellcats" is a longer story.)

Eric

A confession

When my own 'black dog' comes calling, I indulge in something I wrote myself, from 'Ride On'. It is the first festival trip by Annie Price where her feelings for Eric finally sort themselves out, and he stumbles slowly into realising what he has within reach. It is simple soppiness, and when I am down it lifts me up again. A bit indulgent falling back on something I wrote myself, but it works for me.

Isn't this COOL??!

Happy stories

I appreciate the mention of my story Kappa Delta[Delti] girls. Thanks Tigger.

I always loved the Clinton Crayle stories by CC. Most were printed on Empathy Press books years ago. A number of them have been added in recent years to Fictionmania. Like a clown in a circus you keep asking why does he go back for more.
