Me too

Logged out, logged back in, then opened a new browser window. BC came up with me already logged in.

Yes!

Thank you Erin and Bob.

I bet it was Zombies

I have heard that when they are unable to obtain brains, they will often sup upon persistent logins.

Works!

Cool, the persistent login works!

But now I have a strange problem: I can't edit my account. I go to My account, click on "Edit", reenter my login (security, I suppose) and get the message, that the login was successful but I am not authorized to access this page... And I appear twice in the list for the "Online users"...

Known problem - A Tale of Two Cookies

erin's picture

P-Login doesn't modify the original login cookie, it provides a new one. So login knows you're still logged in. However, edit my account is still looking for the original cookie, p-login doesn't intercept that request (insectoid that it is), so if you've been logged in long enough for the first cookie to expire edit my account will gag and choke and give you confusing error messages. Log out, log back in, with or without the remember me, then you can access edit my account.

Think of it as extra security and the stupid error messages are just a typical security guard who doesn't care if you're entitled as long as you don't have the paper he's looking for.

Erin

Related Hiccup?

I had the two windows open I mentioned previously and went to enter PB's latest. After working on it for about a half-hour I clicked on Preview and got told I didn't have permission to view the page. Same reponse when I tried the Back button. Lost the story. First window wouldn't let me Create Content until I logged in again.

Sounds like it might be the same thing, just thought I'd mention it. I got the story in the second time.

If that happens again

Open a new window. Logout. Log back in. Go back to first window and hit the back button. This may save your input.

Also...

If you're adminning and using someone else's login, make sure they aren't on at the same time. :)

I was logged in as someone else while testing and things got funcosing.

Persistent Log-in

I logged-in yesterday, but when I visited the site today, I had to log-in again, so persistent log-in doesn't seem to be working for me! :(

Dave.

A fortnight

The "live till" setting of the login was at 0, meaning same calendar day. I've changed it to require re-logging in every two weeks.

Worked fine

I shut eveything down last night to run disk defrag. Whne I got in here this morning and dialed back in to my ISP, I got on BC and found I was still logged in.

Thanks again, Erin!

Quirk

One thing I've noticed is that if my current session is persistent and started a while ago, if I go to "My account" and click on any of the tabs, it wants the user name and password again. Even if I give the right info, it comes up blank and says I don't have permission to see it. I have to logout and then log back in again.

Yeah

It did that before too, when persistent login worked before. But it does seem more common now. What happens is your cookie expires and the one part of the program is still looking for it. I'm hoping they fix it soon.

Erin
