Too 'sweet' for Halloween? *grin*

So I just finished the rough draft on a Halloween-themed story. Like Becoming Robin this is seated very much in the Sweet / Sentimental category. Unlike Robin this isn't a novel-going-on-serial :-P

It's an actual, real-live short story, from me, the Queen of babbling endlessly. Can you believe it? ^_^

So now I have two choices. I originally started working on this as a way to help get everyone into the Halloween spirit. This is one of my favorite holidays (Even though I don't actively celebrate offline) for quite a number of reasons. The story would technically be an okay fit for the upcoming Halloween contest, but I'm thinking about a much darker piece for that.

I know the rules say you can enter multiple stories, but I'm just not sure if the usual Sweet/Sentimental from me would be in the spirit of things. Plus readers of my currently in-limbo Aria Blade will see a familiar face in a more "real" setting. ;-)

Either way, I'm going to set it aside for now and let it cool for a few days, then go back and make any necessary changes, then post it up. I just don't know whether or not I'll enter the contest or not (I've never entered any writing contests before, here or elsewhere :-))

Here's the teaser, just for fun though:

A Trick ... or a Treat?

Sixteen year old Michael Bowen hated Halloween because it always meant chauffeuring his younger sister around, but a chance encounter with the town's 'witch' may just change his life forever...

I'm sure your story and your Michael Bowen will be a great addition. I'm excited to see your entry and I am confident your many fans will be as well. Congratulations as well for your year of success and our entertainment. Thank you!

To me, Halloween is not something

That ought to be taken with somber solemn mood. I imagined it as more of a time of change, and fun. So I guess this would work nicely to be in the contest! :)

Also, nice coloring trick!

I'm somewhere a cross between

Zoe Taylor's picture

I'm somewhere a cross between a "sunny" goth and a "romantigoth" in my love of the macabre, where I appreciate all things dark and creepy, but at the same time I like to think my writing style is indicative of my normal personality too.

Oh, for the colors I used an online Gradiant Color Generator, which creates a nightmare of HTML code that I can only pray doesn't break something, but so far it seems to be behaving. For the final story I might create a little .gif or something to create the same effect though.

I originally wanted to avoid typecasting myself as "Always Sweet/Sentimental" or "The Eternal QoS", but I guess in the end, at least when you write for a hobby, you've just got to write what you feel like writing :-D

I'll admit the way the story ends does leave it kind of open to future mini-installments/updates/one-shot stories too, but I'll burn that bridge when I get to it.
/ramble off ^_^

Zoe write how you feel hun. If your Goth write as a goth if that is how you feel, just write as your mind wanders away with it's self lol. I'm shure we may or may not enjoy your stories like we do Robin, but no matter what we will at least read them.
