What looney, weird, crazy things are you doing this weekend? Try and beat this!

This weekend I am a volunteer for the place I work in a parade to a local festival. Then an hour or so later I'm participating in the same costume at a musical/dance/audiance participation performance at that same the festival. It's one of the larger charity/community/church sort of carnval/festivals held in our area of the state. You know the sort of thing. Beer tents, food vendors, corn roast, ammusment rides, petting zoo, pony rides, local bands, raffle, coed volley-ball and other sport tournments, tractor pull, firemen water fights and the like.

I will be in a full body costumn. Fake plus fur/foam padded top complete with a full head/helmet piece. Weather is expected to be in the low to mid 80s F.

It does have a cooling vest but that will only last about an hour before all the coldpacks thaw. Though we will have a cooler with lots of ice and either spare cold packs or at least the ice to partially refreeze them. I must be crazy! I do have permission to *bail* if it gets to be too much. I did this most recently back in June in the upper 60s F and 90 minutes was near my limit.

I will NEVER make fun of anyone in a marching band or team mascot in costume ever again.

These people suffer for our entertainment.

I'm sooo glad I'm not doing this in Dallas TX. They will hit 104F today. We hit the low 90s starting Sunday here in SE Wisconsin.

So, I have to ask... who here is doing something equally wierd this weekend?

Well . . .

I read your blog!

Been in the triple digits in your part of *the states*, Karen

You can probably claim heat stroke made you read it.

John in Wauwatosa for the next hour or two then off to the festival.

P.S. A question for our LA area members. How's Carmagedon going?

P.P.S. Happy 66th birthday to The Gadget. AKA the Trinity atomic bomb test.

And I looked it up. Since the novel Gidget came out in 1957 and she was mid teen, she'd be about 70 now. My mind makes these wierd connections. 70 plus year old beach bunnies and surfers! In board shorts and bikinis...GACK!

Funny you mention Gidget

A tv station is running a bunch of the Gidget movies this weekend. Thank God I wasn't a teen girl in those days, the hairstyles are HORRID!

Wikipedia has a pic of a first edition with its original jacket

Giget on the novel cover/jacket is wearing, I SWEAR, the same one-piece 1950s something blue swimsuit my mom wore for years.

TERRIFING!

Mind you it is/was a flattering French cut(?) suit. It must have really been something on my mom before three kids came along.

John in Wauwatosa, sweaty smelly but alive post parade and Radio Disney. I went through two sets of cold packs for the vests in aprox 2 and one-half hours of parade and performance. Plus three 16.9 oz bottles of slushy cold water and a half-dozen or so cubes down my back.

They had a partial power failure so the last half hour was less hectic. I mean how can you have a DJ based dance/games/contest show with no electric power? But then that didn't stop the midway but they had their own diesel generators.

Trinity site

They actually have tours of Trinity site. Two days a year, the first Saturday of April and the first Saturday of October. Tours run thirty-five dollars. They have a monument at ground zero. Also I have turned to cooking on the concrete of the drive way in Fort Worth. Saves the cost of natural gas, but the AC bill is frightening.

Time for a visit!

My temps up here in OKIE-land are running 4-5 degrees hotter than Ft. Worth! Thought I might come down and cool off! Looks as if my electric bill for the summer is going to cost me more than my heart surgery!

I read your blog too

Plus I'm watching the British Open golf and working on the closing chapters of Mishap.

If you really start to get into this kinda stuff

... then go to Anthrocon. It's too late for this year as it only just happened ( a new coworker acquaintance went with his daughter. ) Since it is held in a convention hall it is pretty cool and betcha paramedics are on standby in case of heat issues.

You'll be only one of many of the suited in this crowd though.

Old StarDust Comments

Me? I'm not doing much. I did go and backup a lot of old Stardust comments for my stories. Not all mind you, but there are a few that I want to keep. The ones for my very first effort, and the many pages of them for Once the Hero. OTH's StarDust comments were very much a part of the writing of that story. So many of those reviewers helped make the story that did get posted to BC all that much better.

Other than that I'm simply enjoying the last few days of the marvelous cool spell we've had here. It won't even reach 90 today! Three day of under the big Nine is blessed relief! I would head for the pool, but the rugrats are swarming. You can always tell by the floaties around their arms and tummies. LOL!

well I don't know if its wierd or just gross

I'm nursing my first yeast infection... it was so embarassing.

I had to ask the pharmacist for advice on how to apply the wonderful cream. She told me wear a pad cuz it leaks... I was so happy...

I am not an attractive woman but I do "pass" but this woman was treating me with kindness. It felt so nice and I know this sounds like mental illness and it probably is.

But her sharing this advice like it was a secret just between 'us girls' made me glow and not just from the infection.

Even my mother has a new found empathy with me... our shared experience with yeast infections.

Yay me.
Wierd? no. gross? maybe...

I'm watching paint dry

laika's picture

But it's BEHR PREMIUM PLUS, so this should be quite exciting. Painted my bedroom ceiling in Botecelli Angel (light pink) a few days ago and now the walls in a corresponding shade of aqua, to be set off (once I borrow a ladder) with white molding in a design that makes me think of the governor's mansion in some French holding in the Carribean, or something. Had to get the painting done before the swirly 1950's charcoal carpet gets installed next week. Think Miami Beach only a whole lot gayer. Little white christmas lights hanging from the rafters out on the half-constructed deck, the French doors not installed yet so just a big rectangular hole between me and the outdoors. I might be stuck in the Sierra miles from the beach but I gone troppo + may crack that rum open that's been sittin there gathering dust for a month.

Thinking about becoming a

Thinking about becoming a numbers runner in my spare time, either that or opening up my own psychic hotline. I know what's on your mind John and it can get you arrested. You will find love in an unusual place, stay away from Chinese Restaurants till after Tuesday and your lucky numbers are 6 15 32 47 51. Oh and beware of the Ides of March.
