bon fire knight

In Australia ,we dide,nt have Halloween when was I a kid ,it was something that happened in America ,In oz we had a bon fire and cracker knight called GuyFawkes knight .

In the early nineteen sixty's it was deemed to dangerous because there were to many injuries to kids hanging on to the bigger crackers , so it was stopped ,

It has only been in the last few years that Halloween has taken of in Australia ,and the younger kids are getting into it more because the shops are promoting it pretty heavily , so mum and dad can open up there wallets.

Same here.

I doubt if any 11 year old when I was 11 in the UK (1951) would have known when Hallowe'en was. At that time of the year it was all Bonfire (Guy Fawkes) Night and fireworks, particularly bangers, were all we cared about. It's funny, but this year I haven't heard any premature fireworks. Usually there's a few going off at random intervals anticipating the 5th November. I suppose it's kept going since 1605 partly because early November is a good time for a bonfire to get rid of garden rubbish and we need a bit of cheer to prepare us for the long dark evenings ahead.

I think most people go to public displays these days rather than the private parties we used to enjoy.
