I got my passport and it is all official and everything! I finally have the correct gender marker and everything! Woot!!

The only confusing thing is that it seems to only be valid for two years. This is irritating and I am not pleased with this. So I am going to call them on Monday and ask for clarification. So that is a touch irritating.

But YAY!!

Do you know when you last

Do you know when you last got your passport was? I am thinking that maybe changing details doesn't actually renew the passport. So they might have issued the change for the time left on your current passport. I know, we are all so used to set ups like the cell phone companies these days, where any little change renews the deal. The government doesn't really work that way. That's my thought anyway. And yes, congratulations!

I haven't had a passport in

I haven't had a passport in over 10 years so there is no left over time or anything. There really is no reason for this to not be a full 10 to the best of my understanding.

Perhaps...

Perhaps they decided that, since you wanted to change your gender once, in another year or two you might change it again to yet another gender? Just how many genders do the government think there any anyways?

Just kidding. As has been pointed out numerous times, the ways of officialdom exceedeth all understanding.

The "new" rules that let...

The new rules that made it easier to change the gender marker also put the 2 year limit on passports... I don't know if when you renew it you'll get the 10 year - good question.

One point to recall. Your passport never expires as far as Identifying you as who you are and as a citizen. What expires is your ability to use it for international travel.
