New! Due to a larger amount of late entries, I am going to extend voting with Kudos for one extra week after the deadline to give them a chance to gather votes.
Voting deadline ends midnight November 6, 2010 Pacific time. Results posted November 7, 2010. The Entry deadline is still October 30, 2010 at midnight Pacific time. |
The time is here to bring out the spookiness, fear, mystery, and horror of Halloween into writing! Come up with a story, that deals with a character that is TG or becomes TG, lesbian, gay, or bi throughout its course of flow and fill it in with Frightening stuff, Mysterious stuff, stuff related to Samhain - Wiccan of nature, Horror, or anything else associated with Halloween! That simple! Any genre, any plot device, any time period. Stories must also be brand new and not posted anywhere else on the Internet. Also... Please remember to flag your stories in the +fiction page under the contests line with October 2010 All Hallows Eve Story Contest! The Contest will last a total of 4 weeks for submissions (October 1, 2010 - October 30, 2010). An author may submit as many entries as they like, but only 1 of their's may be in the top 3 - the one with the most Kudos. The sooner a story is entered, the sooner people may vote on it. The Spooky Revelation Night to find the lucky ghouls & guys who won is, of course, on Sunday October 31, 2010! |
The voting this year will occur over the entire contest period by registered site users only using a NEW VOTING FEATURE ~~The Kudo Button at the bottom of each story!~~ ONLY 1 vote per person using ONLY 1 of their registered site accounts for voting. Vote on the Flagged Contest Stories during this period for the ones you like best! The top 3 voted for stories will be the winners! Multiple attempts to vote using additional accounts owned or created by that person will nullify their votes and have us pull out the paddle of banishment! The 3 top stories will be awarded a prize designated as follows: 1st place - $75, 2nd place - $50, 3rd place - $25.
The winners will need to pm Erin or Sephrena with their mailing address or paypal account to transfer to for their prize award. All prizes will be mailed or transferred very soon after the winners announcement.

With a great deal of thanks.....
...to Erin and Big Closet of course, but I want to thank Sephrena for her absolutely fantastic graphics, both for this contest and contests past. It's always a great start to a challenge or competition to see the layouts like the one above. Simply wonderful, dear heart. Thank you!

I so want to write for this, but i dont want to be writing more than one story at the moment
I didn't understand it about voting a little.
1)To vote, give the story a kudo.
2)You can only give a kudo once
Does it mean, that one may only spend one kudo on the entire number of Halloween stories, or can give a kudo to all of them if likes - but only once?
Just a clarification needed.
Oh, and if it's a first one, I think a gentle reminder at the bottom of the story, that this is a contest entry and a kudo is ought to be given wisely, is in order.

In Response to your Query
We had a problem with people in the 2009 Summer Romance Contest of committing fraud by using multiple accounts to vote. We have software in place matching up ip addresses versus users. We can tell who is who. So if you have 2 - 5 BCTS accounts and try to pad up the votes for an author, we will see it, subtract the Kudos those accounts gave and delete the accounts. Use only 1 BCTS account and you can vote for as many of the Contest flagged stories as you want as only 1 Kudo per story can be given.
I hope this clarifies that.
Sephrena
It does nicely!
I only have one account anyway, so it was more of the matter of being unsure with the second one.

Sad to think of cheaters
RAMI
It sad to think that anyone would cheat, when voting for a story on this site by using more then one account.
If it was the author of a submitted story, they should be at mnimum banned from participating in a contest again.
I understand that people would want the most votes possible, and in these hard times, I guess even an extra $25.00 comes in handy, but cheating should not be the way to do it. Better to write the best story.

I have a story that I'm working on. Hopefully it'll be ready in time.
Thanks for hostessing the contest, Sephrena!

Me too!
I have a story that I hope is going to be truly unpleasant, hurrah!
Edited to add: already got 4,000 words written....need to up the nastiness!
Hopefully....
I might be able to get something entered for this. I've scribbled down the scenario (before I forget it!), and I have a rough idea of the beginning and end. It's just what happens in between that's going to be interesting to produce :)
Knowing me, it'll probably arrive at the tail end of the month (especially as I desperately want to get Water Torture finished first!), but as the saying goes, "It's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts."
Heck, if it's (a) published and (b) attracts at least some positive comments / kudos, I'll have done my job :)

I wasn't sure I'd be able to
I wasn't sure I'd be able to come up with an idea for this one, but as I'm over 4,000 words now, I guess I must have! ;) I may even get it up within the first week of the contest instead of at the end like last time! I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with the overall feel of it yet, but I'll look at that after I finish the first draft.
Thanks again to Sephrena, Erin, and everyone else involved in BCTS for these fun contests, and the site in general! ^_^

EDIT: Strike that, I'm obviously not going to make it. Maybe next year?

Cripes!
It's nearing 6pm here, so probably somewhere near lunchtime for the majority of readers in the US, and we've already got six stories posted to the contest!
I'm going to have to read less and write more if I want to complete Water Torture and something for this contest before it's too late!

When exactly is the deadline? Is it midnight Pacific Time, early Sunday morning?
I have a habit of getting my stories in just under the wire.
Deadline is Pacific time
that is the server's timebase.

Happy Halloween!
Hi Seph, I'm hijacking your Halloween Contest announcement for a moment because it felt silly creating a whole blog post so soon after posting my last silly blog post :-P
A very Happy Halloween to everyone here at TopShelf, their families, friends, loved ones, cats, dogs, ferrets, birds, fish... :-D
This time next year I hope to have the connections to attend a real party *cough* in costume *cough* :-D But for now, I'm content to wish everyone the best. And for God/dess' sakes, don't make yourselves sweet-sick - that's MY job ;-)
Love,
~Zoe

Once again
I'd like to thank Sephrena for organizing the All Hallow's Eve Story Contest. With so many entries, the readers here were blessed with a variety of fiction, and the writers were given a great opportunity to express themselves; some for the first time, but also some 'old hands' as well. Thank you so much, Seph for your work here and for blessing this site with your presence!
