So much for diversity and discrimination legislation.

Even here

In Columbia, SC the capital of the State a city a city of 100,000 plus population we have similar problems. About two years ago one of the high schools with a very good reputation for academic excellence had an incident. The students wanted to start one of those Straight/Gay clubs. The Principle did all he could sabotage it. When it became clear he didn't have a leg to stand on for exactly the same reasons that school in Miss. is finding, he resigned making as big a fuss as possible. Please remember this was high profile school and area and yet still it happens.

Ya'll just remember that southern hospitality!

sigh

This is in the same state...

where the governor attempted to keep those of African descent from attending the state universities. Where it was illegal for Caucasians to marry Negros, etc. All that said, I have some friends that are seriously looking into throwing a prom for those kids.

Once I transition full time, I'll no longer be able to safely visit my family (yeah, they're in that state too...)

*sighs*

This state is still reaping what it sows and still has not learned. Most of the southern part of the state is still leveled from Hurricane Katrina. There is still people living FEMA trailers and tents.

It is a long road ahead but I will finally become who I should be.

Jeeze! What the hell d'you expect from the deep south. I mean come on, America is one of only two countries that legally executes children. That's Right, The United States and Iran are the only two countries that legally execute children. Iran executed two 13-year-old boys for having a homosexual relationship and Georgia USA executed a boy of 14 for shooting people. I mean who gave the boy the gun!!!!! What was a 14-year-old doing with a bloody gun. But this is good ol'e US of A buddy.
As to not allowing a senior prom girl of 18 to bring her girfriend to the EOT Prom well hello, this is the deep south buddy! Even their christians are racially segregated in their churches, never mind the denominational splits.

I've worked and travelled extensively throughout the whole of the US as a Seaman and as a nautical surveyor. As individuals the yanks aren't half bad but put them together collectively and the adopt the most bizarre and extreme postures. Collectively they're a bunch of nutters, individually they're great. The herd instinct in America is painfully apparent. George Washington was an avowed atheist, could you imagine a latterday presidential candidate declaring he was an atheist.

It's like social workers in the UK. Individually they are all horrified when a 7 year-old kid is starved to death or a baby is beaten to death but collectively these very same compassionate individuals seem to hypnotize themselves into such a politcally correct straight jacket that they end up allowing the most obscene bungles to occure.

It's a sort of collective herd or corporate instinct where nobody want's to be recognised as 'Different' and they end up falling into the most inexplicable traps. A sort of lowest common denoninator of politically correct lunacy that degenrates into criminal incompetance. That's what happens when social services is seen as some sort of carreer in local government. The back-stabbers, pyramid players and box tickers rise to the top, like scum in a cesspit.

Thank God we transgendered individuals are different. When we stand up to be counted as different in front of the herd they are forced to recognise their collective hysterior vis-a-vis their individual feelings. It takes courage for we often stand out as figures of fun but once they are forced to acknowledge us and then communicate with us, they find out we are not some sort of monsters. Their collective postures and perspectives are made to look ridiculous to their individual selves.
Have you noticed yet that not one single transvestite has ever featured in a soap. A transexual yes, (Haley in Corrie) but not one single transvestite. The corporate media is too bloody afraid.

There's still a long way to go baby!

This is wierd. I haven't changed my password but the site wont dispayl all my thingies at the side like 'Submit Story'!

What's worse

I'm not sure what is worse about this, the introduction of nonrelevant facts into this discussion; the automatic assumption that all the U.S. is prejudiced but none more so than the South; or the assumption that the rest of the Western world is somehow morally superior/less prejudiced than the U.S. In my travels around the U.S., and indeed around the world, I've seen plenty of prejudice of some form or fashion, often times very blatant. And I've seen bigotry and prejudice openly displayed by members of the GLBT community.

I deplore what has happened to this young woman in Mississippi; but would suggest we all look to our own 'backyards' to see what we can do to make things better where we live before casting stones at somebody else.
