Earlier today I was bored and decided to look around and see what was out there when it came to TG Anime and came across a series called Wandering Son, There were 11 parts to the video. It's very good series about a boy who dreams of becoming a girl.

I was also wondering if anyone had seen it and might be able to recommend other anime videos that are similar to Wandering Son.

I've had a look at my anime

I've had a look at my anime collection, I’ve found the following cd/ts/tv titles some are played for laughs:

Cheeky angel
Wondering son
Kampfer
delinquent in drag
Ranma 1/2
I my me strawberry egg
Mayo Chiki (girl dresses up as a boy)
Baka to Test to Shokanju (one of the boys keep getting mistaken for a girl as a result he tends to wear a skirt a lot)
Battle Athletes Victory DVD (one of the girls is a boy)
Doki Doki School Hours (one of the boys wears a girls school uniform in the summer)
Hayate no Gotoku
Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi (younger brother of main character competing sport event so friend of main dresses up the brother as a chearleader)
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru (boy goes to an all girls school to fulfill conditions of grandfathers will)

there was a manga I started to read years back, can't remember what it's called it's starts of with this boys mum telling him he's going to the same high school as she and his sister went to, then he remembers that's it's an all-girl's school, the sister's all for it since she still has her uniform.

there was a 2 part anime i saw a while back, set in a high school, the main character is a member of the archery club, one day a new male student transfers in, he turns up wearing the girls school uniform because he looks cute in it.

While I've never heard of Wandering Son...

I do know that the TG issue is touched on, in a manner of speaking, in the anime: .//Dot Hack Sign. If you're into mystery and/or scifi at all, you might just like this one. Very interesting concept.

Peace be with you and Blessed be

TG manga/anime

"Wandering Son" is also known as "Hourou Musuko". It has an ongoing manga that is currently at 107 chapters, carrying the story way beyond the end of the anime.

Other manga that feature a prominent TG character include:

Family Compo
Honey ^2 Skip
Kunisake Izumo (a reluctant TG)
Kuragehime [Jellyfish Princess] (also an anime)
Tenshi Ja Nai!

Manga Fox has a directory that allows filtering, including a "gender bender" catagory:

I would love to see Family Compo done as an anime, but there are parts of the story that would definitely put it in the 18+ category.

Best regards,
Deni

I love Izumo its one of my all time favorites...I wish it were an anime. Family Compo is really good too. I'd like to add another one too, Ame Nochi Hare (BIKKE)or Clear Up After Rain.

AH Yeah .//dot hack sign one

AH Yeah .//dot hack sign one of the main characters was a wave master, looks like a boy, talks like a boy, turns out to be a girl. Her father wanted a son and after his wife died he used to physically abuse his daughter if she did anything feminine, so much so she ends up in hospital in a coma, on the online-world convinced she's a boy

Minami Ke

Enemyoffun's picture

There's two fun characters in Minami Ke that are slightly TG. Both of which are associated with the youngest sister. One is a girl who acts and dresses like a boy and another is a classmate who crossdresses because he wants the younger sister to be his friend. Well at first anyway, then he kind of falls in love with the oldest sister. Its really funny, you have to see what I mean.

Its a really good anime overall too, if you don't mind subtitles that is.

Euh wandering son has also an

Euh wandering son has also an ftm character ;) and his charactar used to date the mtf character ... (simplifying things with sayingmtfand ftm gomendasai)

En there also's Mariaholic (if I remember the title correctly) set of anime titles

Don't remember the title but there is also on where that reminds me of Tootsie although the setting is high school instead of TV.

And as usual a lot of the stuff is direct shounen ai :(:(:(:( altough Kashimashi is one of the few shoujo ai in the genre and Ranma offcourse.

I'm surprised no one ever mentions it. It's an older anime (early 1990's) but one of the main characters is M2F. She hides it well for the first episode or so but then everyone finds out. She's treated with comedy (as is a TG's lot in Anime) but there is a seriousness to it as well. Without really spoiling anything I'd like to add that she is eventually accepted as a girl.

Overall it's one of my favourite Animes. It is a shojo, so probably why it's not a comedy, and is based in a fantasy world. Although I'm sure if you were searching for anime that would have come up fairly quickly.

I've watch a lot of "TG" anime and read quite a bit of manga too (I think I had at least 50+ manga volumes that dealed with TG issues (Day of Revolution was my favourite one about an intersex person). Sadly, most animes (and mangas) only like to deal with gender from a comedy point of view. You'll find your selections extremely limited.

manga

Lots of manga are good but never made it to anime, Futaba kun change is a good funny one that gets just weird at the end.

Yes but mostly no.

Futabakun Change is a comedy, which is what I was saying. There are a lot of comedies out there. Mostly they just use some sort of hopping back and forth gender bending scheme (via cross dressing or magic). However, it sounded like the original poster was asking for more serious animes.

Many of those comedies are very enjoyable to watch / read but on the whole if you're looking for anything that doesn't treat the situation as a big joke then selections are extremely limited. This is especially true with anime. Less so with manga since it's much easier to get a manga created and published than it is to have it animated, voiced, and aired.

I Just Watched "Wandering Son"

I felt sad at the end. The lead seemed pretty much TS, but although 2 girls, one who is probably F2M, came to school in boy's uniforms and were admired or no one cared; when the lead came in girl's clothes, most were upset. It seemed that a lot of the kids knew E crossdressed, but most treated er like a freak after er CDing at school. The adults seemed horrified and called er parents; er mom had to come pick er up.

There were some telling er that E had to do er research, if E wanted to go M2F E needed to be active, etc, but at the end E didn't seem to have done anything. E was growing taller and in the last part er voice was breaking. There was an adult Tgal who everyone thought was very pretty and fem, but the lead didn't seem to get any info or advice from the Tgal.

It just seemed tragic. Er dream seemed to have failed or stalled, but if E gets back to transitioning, er nice, girlish voice and body will be gone.

I'm, bummed!

Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee

The Manga

Enemyoffun's picture

There's way more in the manga. I was surprised how short the anime was and where they started. They also ended way too early as far as I was concerned.

I was really surprised too,

I was really surprised too, it seemed right as I was really getting into it the series ended. I am watching another Anime at the moment though called, honey and clover though so far I haven't seen anything as far as a TG element to it, but its pretty funny.

Le Chevalier D'Eon

Breanna Ramsey's picture

This is one that seldom gets mentioned, but I found it to be worthwhile. D'Eon de Beaumont sets out to investigate the murder of his sister, Lia, and becomes involved in a great deal of danger and intrigue with mystical roots. In moments of crisis he finds his body possessed and transformed into that of his sister as she seeks to extract vengeance on those who betrayed and killed her.

The anime is inspired by a historical figure, Charles Geneviève Louis Auguste André Timothée d'Éon de Beaumont, the Chevalier d'Eon, an 18th century French diplomat, soldier and spy. D'Eon de Beaumont's true gender was a matter of some speculation, and even a wager, and though living as a male was rumored to have dressed as a woman when conducting clandestine missions for King Louis XV. She spent the last 33 years of life as a woman, and an examination after her death in 1810 revealed she was anatomically male, but clearly the Chevalier d'Eon was a kindred spirit.

Eonism

Long before the word transvestism was coined, the term used was Eonism. Cross-dressers were Eonists. There were many semi-secret Eonistic societies throughout the world.
