Today is a big day for me as I hit the 20 year mark. My boyfriend treated me to lunch and my Grandpa has a surprise for me tonight so I'm excited! My Grandma and Grandpa were the only ones in my family that didn't disown me when I came out. I've lived on my own since graduating High School. I lived with my grandparents from when I was 4 up until graduating high school. They supported me and I'm very grateful. School wasn't very enjoyable for me because I had no friends and I was always an outcast. I had one real friend growing up and she died our Senior year of High School after committing suicide because of bullying stemming from her comming out as Lesbian. I was there when she did it and I tried to get her to stop, she knew she was loved but couldn't take anymore of thebullying. I got lucky as far as male puberty was concerned because I had a "deficiency" when it came to my hormones. That meant that I never had to deal with my voice changing or growing facial/body hair. I started Estrogen therapy at 15 and gradually came out of my shell. I had one teacher in high school that really made high school better for me because she knew what i was dealing with.

many hugs* Happy birthday to you. I'm sure you'll enjoy the day. I won't bore you with stories of my own 20th, trust me; it was boring. Please do have fun though. Happy twentieth!

Parent's

It sounds like your grandparents were also effectively your parents. Be thankful for their model of unconditional love (heathier and more productive than bemoaning those who have disowned you). Use your friend as an example of what NOT to do, when you get depressed.
Happy 20th

I'm in tears right now

After "receiving" my present from my grandparents I am in tears. When I was younger my grandma won an auction on a 3500 square foot house just off the coast of a lake in Wisconsin(I live in Southeast Minnesota) well long story short they remodeled the place and when I walked into their normal home(the one I grew up in) they gave me a key and they said to me "This key is the key to your new life." I instantly knew what he meant and I was crying instantly and hugging him at the same time. They handed me the keys to their Lake home and I couldn't be happier.

Whoa!

Congrats Lilly! That is truly special.
