The news sources in New York City are all reporting a story where a man posed as his own dead mother for six years, wearing a wig and her clothes while living in her rent controlled home,

and collecting her benefits!

Links to the story and even a video are passed on below. I just thought that, while it is not fiction, it should certainly be of interest.

Late Night

Last night, Dave Letterman used this story as the basis of a joke. Something about, being as she looked pretty convincing as an old lady, all she had to worry about was getting hit on by Ashton Kutscher.

Funny You Should Say That

The Norman Bates reference was part of Keith Olbermann's humorous reporting of the incident on his MSNBC show last night.

Bates Seems to Have Been Mentioned....

...in at least one of the wire service articles on the incident also. (I know I saw it somewhere.)

Having put up the woman's tombstone does seem like a fatal flaw (no pun intended, but I'll take it) in the scheme, though.

(Seems to me that someone must have done a TG version of the Gianni Schicchi plotline by now...that's what the story brought to my mind.)
