Transgeder Treatment Protocols

I find myself feeling rather fearful and nervous about meeting I am attending at 12:00 today.

The purpose of it is to comment on Treatment Protocols for the GBLT set at OHSU, here in Portland. I don't find myself feeling very charitable toward them as I think they are a pretentious, self important bunch. They seem to filter everything one of us says with filters that put some sort of bizarre Freudian spin on it.

They seemed to feel rather insulted when I walked away from them and went on to actually have a real life, and without their mind numbing drugs.

I really need some one to pray that I will be a good girl today and not leave the conference room in a smoking ruin, from my dragon nature. An articulate Transgender Muslim woman is apt to confuse them.

Much peace

Oye!

You really didn't expect the GLB little 't' community to take us serious, did you? I mean, please. What do you expect from people who think they are doing the TG community a great service by putting 'Ru Paul's Drag Race,' on LOGO TV?

After having thrown us under the bus for years, they have finally let us onboard, provided of course we sit quietly in the back. Can anyone say HRC, Barney Frank and ENDA 2007?

No doubt I will be hammer for saying this, but most members of the GLB little 't' community wouldn't mind it at all if we disappeared.

Okay, fire at will.

Nope I will stand here and take my share of the fire

... I still have the tire tracks from that bus as far as I can tell.

We have to fight for ourselves really, we are just their silly form of political correctness pets, really.

There are of course a small number who are truly compassionate but I doubt that they would shed a tear if we disappeared overnight.

WPATH

I think it is sufficient for you to quote the running version of WPATH-SOC to expöain what the professionals se as needed for us. Unfortunatly the upcoming version ( nbr 7 ) is not out yet. and when it comes to the other groups just listen and make a comment as a normal kind person. Just remember what I found out from several Stockholm Pride: The G+L- groups know almost as little about us in the T-group as do other persons out in the general society. In my thought I will be by your side. Good Luck!
What you could try to get support for is that the whole group as such can work for is the inclusion of all "letters" to be protected under the HATE-umbrella whe we are attacked.

I personally take a somewhat more radical view and think the medical community, through stigmatising and medicalising transgendered and transsexual individuals, have magically created a profit centre where there might be a simple elective surgery centre, and contributed to the oppression of a class of individuals, just as they had the gay male and lesbian communities before.

Society allows men to have hair transplants, penile implants, "pec sculpting," liposuction, and whatnot, essentially at will, and all they have to say is that they want to improve their looks.

Likewise, women can contract for breast implants, "nose jobs," "tummy tucks," and a host of surgical procedures designed to enhance their "body image" and essentially all the medical community will ask is, "Will that be cash or credit?"

I don't think there should be any gatekeepers or filters standing in the way of anyone who wants to change the way they look, and the only reason they get away with it is due to invidious discrimination and hatred on the part of the society at large, and many members of the medical community.

Some years ago, Samuel R. Delany wrote a novel, Trouble on Triton: An Ambiguous Heterotopia, later republished as Triton.

In it, he describes a society free of that particular sort of oppression, in which one can arrange, for any reason at all, to have one's gender and sexual orientation changed at will, and in fact he arranges to have his body and sexual orientation changed, but it still unhappy, because he hasn't managed to change his soul. His young life was spent in an oppressive society, one in which he was forced to work as a prostitute, and his perceptions of himself, and of his own sense of self worth, were irreparably damaged by that experience.

One might take this as commentary on any number of things, although it seems clear that the oppressive society of Mars, which exists only "offstage," lies at the heart of it all. I recommend it.

OHSU

Its absurd to put a hospital at the top of a mountain, if you had to go by ambulance to the ER there the ride alone would kill you. Maybe they like their ivory tower feel about it?
I will admit that when the skies are clear the view of Mt Hood is fabulous!

Surprised by their attitude.

Actually it was about getting the GBL & t bunch to identify themselves at hiring. It is hard for me to comment on this because at my age, and in my condition, it is doubtful that I will ever need to interview again.

And, actually in Oregon, the law says that we are legally incompetent; delusional to be more exact. At this place in my life, I don't know that I would be able to hold down a job any more and I do not know if I will ever feel empowered again. It is the same stupid shit that most of us have gone through. This latest incident of getting outed on Facebook with the accompanying back lash just really did it for me.

So, if they do repeal the Oregon Law, and we lose our disability, what happens then? How do they plan to help us feel like we can be out amongst the general population? At this point, unless something really positive happened, I would likely just seen how far I could jump my car off the Fremont Bridge.

I really find myself questioning agendas and motives in all this. I am hearing bad noises about the new DSM. For now, I can skip ahead a few decades, and fantasize about a time when the whole GBLT set is seen as being Intersexed; a time when the Fundies are institutionalized; and people exist and work strictly on their abilty to do a Job.

Nope, this batch is the good stuff and I ain't sharing. (I am being purely faceious, for those who need to be told) :)

Much Peace

The Fremont Bridge?

I don't think you could get a car off of the Fremont Bridge, except in the approved way! No one else has, and people have really tried! Besides that's just silly talk!
