Please Tell Me I'm Not the Only One

I need to hear that I'm not the only one with the following problem.

There's a Western Wear store in downtown Renton, WA that I walk by quite frequently, and in this store, there's been a dress on display in one of the windows. I'm not overly fond of Western clothing styles but it makes sense that there could be exceptions.

The dress I've been seeing is a very cute little brown sundress with spaghetti straps, short skirt, a floral/leaf print in earth tones and a wide fabric belt.

I'm in love with that dress. It's absolutely adorable... and there's no way I can wear it. I'd look horrible in it. I'd put it to shame and completely, utterly, totally cancel out the beauty of the dress.

I'm so depressed. *sigh*

So please tell me I'm not the only one this happens to. I'm certain that I'm not the only one but I'd like to have it confirmed. Please?

Very few of us

can wear such confections without looking awful to dreadful, even those of us who live fulltime. Shoulders are too wide and so on. However, that doesn't take away the desire only stops you acting upon it.

Terry, it ain't just you!

I frequently see clothing that I would just kill to wear. Certain outfits or dresses seem to just shout at me, but, like you, I could never wear that! Shoes are a particular menace-I want to, so badly, but the only foot I do have is only half of a foot-sexy high heels are not in my future! Still...
I have a cetain dress in mind, and strangely, it was one I saw at a Tack shop. White, and I think made of Linen with what appeared to be leather details-I'm no expert on fashion-but it was sooooo pretty! I wanted it so badly, but it would NEVER look right on me! I had to tear myself away from it!
Ahh, well. Perhaps in the next life...

We always want the things we

We always want the things we can't have, so you definitely are not alone. I think every woman I know has something in their wardrobe they purchased because it looked great only to find out when they put it on it didn't suit their body shape.

The dress does sound quite cute. :-)

Even tailored (*giggle*) to that specific case :-)

I went to the mall yesterday, and I saw THE cutest electric blue dress with a nice neckline. I couldn't have done it justice even if I were in a position to buy it though because the straps would show off too much shoulder.

I'm not comfortable exposing myself that much, even though I've dated (genetic) girls with broader shoulders than mine who looked quite sexy in spaghetti straps. It's just not something I could ever pull off. :-)

Yep, you are not alone

Yes, you are totally not alone. And it happens all the time. But the thing is, even natural-born girls have the same problems with clothes. Though not totally the same, our problem is not overly different from an overweight girl wanting to look sexy, or a guy wanting to look like Ahnold in a muscle shirt, or a short, skinny girl wanting to look sexy in a bikini.

For me, thinking that keeps such things in better perspective.

You know, it's not too good obsessing about things we cannot have - a statement, I am sure, that is easier to say than to follow. It is a hard lesson to learn for all of us. It is, in fact, something that I am still trying to follow. Keeping things in perspective is hard, but is essential. I'm not always successful, but I try. And I think that's the important thing - to keep on trying to keep everything in perspective.

About clothes - I have a few techniques and gimmicks I've come up with through years of trying to pass, that have worked for me before. Let me know if you are at all curious about them.

Anyway, Happy Easter, Terry.

I go through the same problem

most recently it was a pair of shoes - pink gladiator heels that been totally impractical even if they came in my size. didnt stop the dagger to my heart that happened every time I went past them.

Keep it in perspective

There are reasons why there are color seasons and the like, I would love to pull off blond even if it is merely wearing a wig. Women have body types. It goes on and on. I have flat feet and can't wear any real heels though I love shoes. On top of that I have kinda mismatched feet so that it is really hard to find a single pair of shoes to both fit without an adjustment to one shoe or the other.

I am just piling on the point, I know, but it serves no purpose to dwell on a want. It is always far more important to concentrate on what is a Need.

Thanks, Everyone

Your comments helped. It will help even more when the store puts a different dress in the window! Until then, I'll continue to suffer I think. But I'll try to keep your comments in mind.

Hugs to all!
