A supernatural nightlight

Does she need to sleep in the dark now?

Thank you for that wonderful story!

Martina

In a way, I'm sad to see this

In a way, I'm sad to see this come to an end, because I don't have another chapter to look forward to, soon. It nicely wraps things up, though. It's been quite a tale. Thanks, Maggie!

Tears

The rest was sort of expected, or at least I wasn't surprised. But her meeting with the so-called "lesser weres", not only did it catch me by surprise, it had me crying by the end. And I'm still a bit teary-eyed. I read in a story somewhere that Noblesse oblige is only felt by those who are truly noble. Cindy has shown her nobility, and her humility.

I think it was Robert Heinlein

I think it was Robert Heinlein in one of his books. Can't remember which one at the moment.

I think it goes, "Only those who are truly noble feel the obligation."

Wonderful story. Enjoyed it immensely.

To be or not to be... ask Schrodinger's cat.

I believe you are right, Janet

In fact, digging through my cluttered mind has given my the likely novel: "Glory Road". I even believe I know the specific scene, but without a copy currently to hand I can't say for sure, so I won't.

Thanks for the memory jog!

Thanks Maggie

for such a clear ending and leaving it open for a future tale.

Me too Karen.

Maggie ended this story just right and like Karen that final meeting brought me to tears. The characters moved me like few have and with the end I almost feel like an old friend has moved away. Just plain wow!

Very good conclusion

She's safe, the baby's safe, the grail's safe and she's gained the respect and admiration of practically all the Unseen (possibly even the Vamp with a chronic case of cabin fever - Wisteria). The not-Major (since they're not 'lesser' any more!) weres have inherited some of the SUVs and an open-ended promise of help if they truly need it. Meanwhile it turns out Linda's a dwaggie1 - at least Cindy's got plenty of time to source an appropriate venue (i.e. stone, and nowhere near woodland!) for Linda's sixteenth (assuming DRU dwaggies come with the obligatory built-in blowtorch / flamethrower).

[1] Affectionate form of "Dragon" - and if you thought dragons were scary monsters, take a look at this collection and revise your opinion :)

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Awwwwwww...

It was a great ride, cant wait for the next one. ;)

Good ending to this chapter of her life.

As a father, I definitely empathise with the loss of the little balls of helpful :)

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Fitting conclusion

Jemima Tychonaut's picture

The scene at the Frat House was beautifully written and I sit here with wet cheeks after reading Cindy's speech to them.

A fitting conclusion to the story Maggie. Thank you.

Broken Irish is better than clever English.

Lotsa possibilities for the future

as there are hanging questions. So that mean that the baby was born as a dragon and then transmogrified to human form? Will she has species-dysphora ( or some such. ) I mean if she grows up human she will have a shock when she finds out she is suppose to be a dragon as she grew up a dragon or will she feel unease as a human and want to become a dragon asap?

Of course, then there's the grail which was deftly vague about the why of its existence and what does a dragon do with such a magical item.

Wonderful

Thank you once again for a truly special and wonderful tale.

Wow! This was a great story, but the conclusion, the conclusion is so far superior to the ends of most internet fiction that I really don't know what to say.

I haven't commented much lately, but this absolutely demands a comment. Thank you.

Good story

That was a good story with a satisfying ending. I've read only this story, because it was by you, and none of the rest of the stories in this shared universe, but it seems to stand alone pretty well. I'd like to hear more about the herbivorous weres at some point. (I have the impression there are fewer of them than of the carnivorous weres, which seems like an odd upside-down ecosystem, but that may be something you were stuck with from previous stories by other people in the same setting, or it may be a false impression from the few times they're mentioned in this story.)

Loved the story

The is one of my I will read this agin stories. I always wonder about age you have to be 16 or 18 or 21 to do this or that in times gone by and in land far far away girls were between 9 and 12 and by 14 an old maid. boys a man by 15.. i think it strange. Being bi was Normal... I wonder what a bi Coyote would be like Giggle

That's not actually

That's not actually necessarily true. Yes, there may have been 'marriages', but they weren't consumated ones. Menarch often happened much later (15-17), and often, men couldn't get married until they had built a home/business for themselves - which could be 21/22 or later (apprenticeship to journeyman/master). That's part of why you ended up with the age discrepancies - the man was old enough to be able to support a family, the woman was capable of bearing children reasonably safely. (that's one of the benefits of the late menarche - the physical body was often much more matured than today)

The more urban, the more likely you were to marry younger. The rural areas often understood that you don't breed your stock too young.

I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I missed this one

Great story loved it :). Now ALL the wares in Raven Crest know not to mess with Cindy Harper or the Harper clan as she has proven her self to everyone in the town who were unseen. Now all of them respect Cindy a LOT more after defeating the hunters. Way to go Cindy & all involved.

Hypatia Littlewings's picture

Cindy talks about how scary others are, wonder if she knows how scary she is. Mean while seems she would just rather be friends when possible. Quite an adventure! Glad she ended up Happy with her life.
