Moving On Sunday

I've been a bit distracted and busy over the last three months or so with trying to find a new place to live.

The building that I have been in for the last twelve years will be torn down soon and will be replaced by a condominium building that will be ready in about three to four years. Tenants from my building have the option to take apartments there when it opens.

I just received confirmation that I will be moving into a new apartment, with the actual move taking place on Sunday.

Once the move occurs, I will likely be offline for several days so this site might be a bit quieter. LOL

I've been stressing out a lot lately because I was supposed to be out of here on July 31st, but we hadn't found an apartment yet, and the social worker who has been helping with the apartment hunting and her supervisor both told me to stay here until a place was found.

That is largely due to the fact that I have several minor medical issues that make it hard for me to do things, then the Fibromyalgia on top of that. Both social workers felt it was safer for me to stay here and avoid being on the street, even though I wanted out of here ASAP.

Well, in a few days, I won't have to worry about this shithole again. I'll be moving into a nice well-maintained one bedroom apartment. That will be a huge difference from what I have been through here, specifically no maintenance in my unit since March of '09.

What makes it absolutely idiotic is that I have been blamed for anything and everything. The truth is that, for six years, between the beginning of 2006 and mid-February of 2012, I lived under a lush who would get drunk, turn on the faucets, fall asleep and flood my apartment.

In those six years, I lived through at least fifteen major floods in my apartment and two dozen or so minor ones. In each case over the first three years that this was happening, I asked to use a vacuum to fix the mess and they ignored my requests, so the place got stinky.

They turned around and blamed me for the stink, when I was not the cause at all and I asked for equipment to sort out the problem.

They continued to blame me after that because I am a book person, I like to have my own books on hand so I can reread them now and then, just like I might reread stories from many authors here. They used every excuse they could to not do the maintenance and still blamed me.

What makes it even worse is that, in the twelve years I've lived here, I've had heat in the cold seasons for perhaps SIX MONTHS TOTAL. That is six months out of the nine months each year that the heat in a unit here is required to be turned on.

So, for the other 102 months out of the total 108 that the heat should have been on, I've been darn near frozen all the time.

I'm astounded that I only had pneumonia while here twice, both in the colder months, one single, the other double. What is even more amazing is that I've only had two actual colds while living here, despite living in conditions that could have seriously harmed or even killed me.

I've dealt with both seasonal allergies and household allergies for many years, generally with only minor issues. That was not the case here. There has been a shoddy carpet in the apartment here the entire time I've been in the building, and that carpet has made my life hell. Carpets are a real nuisance because they tend to hold dust and dust mites, both of which are part of my household allergies. I had access to a vacuum twice over the twelve year period and the vacuum did absolutely nothing, it was totally ineffective, so I've had no choice but to live with it.

The new place, as I said, is well-maintained and it has no carpet, so that will not be an issue. I wish it was Sunday already. LOL

I'm glad to hear that life is improving for you. I hope your new apartment turns out to be as nice as you are expecting.

Happy

Happy you are getting away from slum landlord, the biggest problem with moving is moving pack everything up label the boxes and when you get there you still can find anything. The you need to find a place for everything and remember where you put it, so it might be next year before you find your favorite stirring spoon again LOL.
Good luck on the move and be safe HUGS
