A giant redwood fell over the other day and was featured on the daily evening news. It seems this tree was old. Older than me. I wonder what it figured out about life that caused it to uproot itself.

After I posted my last story I asked myself . . . What the Fuck?

You see -- I never quite get around the idea that my next story will be my best.

I never see the rejection coming until Lucy's pulled that GD ball out from under my swingin' boot.

It's not like Lucy's to be blamed. Al Wilson said it best in The Snake. I know the rules of this society when I post a story, so why should I expect anything but what inevitably happens.

Who am I to rage against the dying of the light? You knew darn well I was a snake before you brought me in. Sssssighed the ssssnake.

I'll post another story; and Lucy will triumph. That bitch.

Lucy must be life.

Found out quite by accident recently that Narnia had them too, wasn't just Hobbitses. Which came first the Narnia or the ring and did they know of each other at all? Not sure it matters really. Lucy and Charlie always make me smile and even when you know you still try. Maybe it's not quite worrying enough about the rules of the game. Or history or something.

I haven't been around much of late for a whole bunch of reasons but I always try and explore and learn and maybe even improve as I scribble. Perhaps I will again sometime. While there might always be a degree of hurt in not having your baby praised by all and sundry it is what it is and what you felt at the time. That's it really. Anything else is gravy.

Mind you, I do like a bit of gravy now and then, call me human. Superglue the ball maybe? Then that would ruin the joke wouldn't it.

Not only did C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien know each other, they were fellow academics at Oxford and had a friendly competition going as to who could write the best science fiction story. It's quite possible that they shared early drafts of their stories with each other although most of their friendship occurred after Tolkien wrote The Hobbit.

Lewis wrote a famous space travel trilogy as a result of the challenge; alas, Tolkien never did write his time travel opus, if he even began it. Unless Lord of the Rings counts. :) But it's likely that Narnia, considered for decades as one of Lewis's lesser works, would have disappeared into obscurity without the success of LotR. And I think Narnia was admittedly inspired, in part, by The Hobbit and also by Lewis's love of Irish myth.

There's actually a book about their friendship, the name of which I do not recall.

Hugs,
Erin

The Inklings

They were also part of a much larger literary group; the Inklings, I believe. I've heard it said, in several interviews, Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings because he thought there weren't enough books being published about subjects *he* wanted to read about. Sounds like something that would cause any author to start writing, though.

Yuppers, sho nuph and giggles.

OMG,

Angela, You have gone and hit the Smart A$$ Donky on it's snout.

Thank You,

Glad to see you're still alive

I haven't seen much of you on this site Lately and was wondering how you are doing.
Glad to see you're up to being yourself.
I'm still not out of the woods with my right leg, seems that my right foot is next to be operated on. Then next year they will work on the left leg if the right leg is healed.
Meanwhile I try my hand with writing and still don't have full concentration to start and finish. I'm thinking of doing a story of an older IS female finally realizing she has been appeasing others her whole life and not being true to herself (almost an autoibiography in a short synopsis)

Interesting Jill

As you know Jill, I love the raw emotion you bring to your stories. Whether your story is a straight biography or an extended metaphor I'm sure it will be a great read.

I have a son who can't concentrate all that well all the time and I love him all the more for it. I'll bet there are plenty of people who feel the same way about you. I know there's one.

I think about you every time I look at that mug in my office.
