I see that certain parties are telling us that “ObamaCare” will mandate free sex changes, which seems a very positive step.

I think the world would be much improved if certain among our political class were among the first beneficiaries of this new draft, and was wondering if it were too early to start the nomination process.

quotable quotes

laika's picture

Whoever wrote this article sure seems to have a penchant for quotation marks.
"sex Change", "sexual reassignment" and "gender identity disorder" were all in quotes.
Kind of makes it obvious what they "think"...

Understanding words

They do seem to have a real big problem dealing with plain language, don't they? I have no idea what they mean by liberty, which they use all the time, and it used to be a really great word. Wasn't there someone once who wrote about doublespeak?

More to the point

The person who wrote this article seems to have a serious prejudicial bone to pick. Given the degree of misinformation and flat out lies promulgated by the opponents of health care reform, I would have to say this is more than likely an effort to raise another canard designed to misinform and infuriate the religious right.

I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it.

Don't get all happy here folks, this is likely just a bit of cruel torture.

Nothing new under the sun and all that rot.

Perhaps they meant to say mandatory?

Government being what it is lately, nothing surprises me anymore!

$50,000

I wonder where they are getting that number? As soon as it is covered by the government, the price will go right out of sight. Geez, I only spent $12,000 in Thailand, but I did bring e-coli back in my bladder. I'd rather pay for it myself and have them spend the money on intensive public education.

Come on people. Can you even give this crap any degree of credibility? Oh, come all ye gullible,

The stupidity of the far right

Angharad's picture

is breath taking. Nearly 50 million 'mericans are excluded from health insurance under the current system. Is that how they'd really like to keep it? What happened to 'Send me your poor'? Is the US, the richest and meanest country in the world? I thank God (even though I don't believe in her) that I live in the UK.

The better question

is what happened to "Government for the people"? It isn't just the uninsured that get hurt, even the "insured" are destroyed financially by catastrophic illnesses. It is bewildering how the right has learned to rob the middle class by using fear and lies. I wonder why, with their lapel and ribbon decals, they hate my country so, so much. Just because they hate me? And those like me? But, yes, that, and other hates, are exactly what they are using.

Once we lead the world in - well everything. We had the resources and we were less damaged by war, and we had the willingness to try. But those days are gone. In eight years we lost almost half of our manufacturing jobs, when European corporations bought our once great manufactures, they got out quickly when they saw the quagmire, the energy and capital sapping mess, that providing for their employees humanly entailed in this land. We spend twice as much, and it doubles every decade, for mediocre health care. If any solution is sought -- Anything -- anything the answer is always "This republican't"

Irony...

Well, I never took it seriously, but it did seem to fit in well with the clinical paranoia evinced by the article itself, and rampant in some circles.

-----------
Persons with paranoid personality disorder are characterized by long-standing suspiciousness and mistrust of persons in general. They refuse responsibility for their own feelings and assign responsibility to others. They are often hostile, irritable, and angry. Bigots, injustice collectors, pathologically jealous spouses, and litigious cranks often have paranoid personality disorder.
--- Kaplan & Sadock's Synopsis of Psychiatry

-----------

Delusional (Paranoid) Disorder is the more intense version of PPD. A more debilitating disorder, these people exhibit a "persistent, nonbizarre delusion without symptoms of any other mental disorder." These delusions usually consist of beliefs that are untrue, but are firmly believed by the individual. A person with Delusional (Paranoid) Disorder could experience any of several delusions, including, but not limited to:

Grandiose delusion: The belief that they possess special powers or knowledge, such as holding the cure for diseases or they are able to ensure world peace.

Delusion of persecution: The belief that they are being hunted or targeted by some outside force.

-----------

Hallmarks of Paranoid Schizophrenia are paranoid thinking and behavior. These behaviors are accompanied by strange delusions or hallucinations, usually with a specific theme. Often they hear voices or believe that their thoughts are being controlled. While people with milder forms of paranoia are often able to work or maintain clear thinking, those with paranoid schizophrenia have a very hard time maintaining their lives and are very often extremely confused.

Mandated?

...I'm assuming that it is the "free" that is mandated, not the "sex-change", otherwise there'll be a whole lot of surprised rednecks over there...

Seriously, this sounds like one of those anti-healthcare scare-stories. "We'll take your hard-earned dollars and waste them on free sex-changes for any of the lefty socialist perverts who wants one", that sort of thing.

I liked the last choice...

Puddintane's picture

...however unlikely. Where's the fun in a simple inability to string together three words without ambiguity and confusion?

Of course they're idiots, of course they're either lying or delusional paranoids, but it seemed just the slightest bit droll because of it.

The best thing to do with bigots is to laugh at them, since they all love having people argue with them; it lends them a certain air of reality they'd be hard-pressed to convey on their own.
