If Tigers Made Movies

This would totally be part of a scene from an action movie. Likely a short paw-to-hand battle between the tiger and a poacher.

I'm just glad it wasn't me taking this pic

Trivia alert!

Unlike most felines, tigers are not averse to water.

You can see

why he's a white tiger - all that bathing.

Cats will hunt in water, or follow their prey in if they can't scoop it out with a paw. All of mine have at some point in their lives, fallen into a bath, down the loo and into various other bits of wet stuff. Some cats also seem to like bathing or swimming, however, I don't think Bonzi is one of them - least he hasn't asked for scuba gear for Christmas, yet.

Genetic conservatism

Puddintane's picture

The whiteness is actually genetically linked to large size, so white tigers are bigger than most, so not only attractive but spectacular, which is why they're popular in exhibitions. Since the normal tiger colours are meant as camouflage, one would think that the whiteness would be strongly selected against, but the advantage of being able to beat up all the ordinary tigers conserves the trait in the gene pool, despite having the immense disadvantage of making them a prime target for idiots with spears and (later) guns who wanted a nice decoration for the wall, or as a portion of regalia.
