Once there was a Seder headed by a female Rebbe. On the Seder plate was a crust of bread. A disciple asked, "Why...?" She told the story of Puah, a girl from a family of women, asking her Rebbe "Is there room in Judaism for a lesbian?" He said, "There is as much room for lesbianism as there is a crust of bread on the Seder plate." That is why this Rebbe had a crust on the Seder plate. -- based on the Oberlin College Haggadah.

I AM My Brother's Keeper

So far this Holy day season my rabbi concentrated on the idea "I AM my brother's keeper." I was thinking that I know three here who have unknowingly demonstrated to me that quality: Holly Hart, Penny Cardin and Gwen Brown. Among those mentioned by the rabbi was how four chaplains of the doomed WWII transport ship the Dorset gave up their life jackets and other items so that other soldiers could live. He also mentioned Mother Teresa who founded and maintained a hospital in one of the worse slums in the world, yet had a crisis of faith.

Into the Fires of Hell

The title of this blog is one of the thoughts I had as Holly Hart went into the crematorium yesterday. The other was the Nazi ovens in Poland. I was there at the time and the event was harder than I thought it would be.

Another note I sent all the comments and private messages that I saw to Holly's sisters. I thought they would appreciate the sentiment.

I am also thinking that there should be a writing contest to honor Holly, as she was an author and major editor.

My blog the other day was very brief. Although I knew her death was coming I was still in shock when I wrote the blog. She was one of my virtual sisters in the Evil Witch family. She was my roommate for almost six years. She took in homeless; I was one of them. She edited, and in many cases improved the English of many writers here. She was the virtual mother of Penny Cardin, Heather Rose Brown and Shannon Johnson. Her alter ego was in some of the Little Kids Kamp stories. She tried to unsuccessfully change, for another person, a gold star to a Congressional Medal of Honor.
