My dog has been barking at my children lately. Today she was staring intently into the kitchen when my 36yo was making some dinner, and all the sudden started barking at him.
A bit later, my 20yo came upstairs and she started barking at him. Don't know what this is about, but I'm beginning to wonder if her eyesight is going bad. She's starting to bark at my daughter as well.

Something's Up.

How about her sense of smell -- is that okay? Maybe your dog senses that something is up. Does she bark at you? Anything else strange around home?

Her sense of smell is fine.

I do know if I'm not doing well, she is very possessive of me. Im trying to get into my doctor because I'm becoming rather clumsy, and having bad headaches. Perhaps my tumor is starting to grow again. IDK.

Communication

Daphne Xu's picture

That sounds highly plausible. Humans have enough trouble communicating with each other. I've recognized the frustration of our dog (years ago) trying to communicate with me, trying to tell me something important that I just couldn't get.

Your dog's barking? Not growling (a low-pitched growl)? Not otherwise threatening them? How about agitated whining? If her smell's fine, it's not due to lack of recognition.

Primary care physician, urgent care facility, emergency room -- just get to a doctor, now.

I suggest a vet exam for Baby

... and, does she keep on barking when the children speak to her, call her by name? Speak louder on the second try, in case problem includes hearing.

Try what I call "show me" - try to follow her around, see if she is trying to show you something - open basement window, if she has to go potty or for a walk, a gas leak, inquisitive animal at a window or in yard, something new or strange to her...
