Something very fishy is taking place from the subtle hints that we are given. Will we learn about some secret?

I Wouldn't Exactly...

...call those hints "subtle", Stan. But as you noted, there's some agenda here that we don't know about yet.

I have serious problems with mind control stories, but I'll stick with this one until I know more about what's going on...

Eric

No sledgehammer here but

subtle she is not. Sue is definitely letting us in on the secret, and she is doing it at her own pace.

It seems evident to me that the feminine conversion process has not been the sterling success that the government has claimed it to be. This new project is taking serious steps to create enthusiastic young women, even to the point of treating those, like our hero/heroine, who might have come around on their own, though not to the level that the authorities would have liked.

I am wondering if there may truly be a new process that will allow these young peole to have children, but that they fear their subjects may not take to it well if not wholely enthused. remember, even if girl children can come from the process, the government will still need a whole generation of "created women" to be the progenitors.

It is all quite spooky and distasteful to realize that these young people are, for the most part, being forced into liking their new roles. But what is the alternative for the government? Do it anyway, without their enjoyment? Or give up and allow humanity to cease to be? Still, with Sue Brown in charge we may yet find that the path that the UK has taken was not the only option, and that somewhat dark forces are behind the methods opted for. Yet, in the end, when all is revealed I suspect most of our young ladies will opt to become mothers. After all, even so-called normal men are often jealous of that ultimate ability to bring forth new life into the world.

Yep, I am.

I consider myself (mostly) norman male, but I do envy the ultimate ability. Which is why, given a possiblity, I would have liked to become a shapeshifter. After all, there are as many possibilities as there are species on Earth, and that's not even going into mix'n'matching!

Well... I wouldn't call

Well... I wouldn't call drugging them and pull the brainwashing wammy on them subtle. Everyone who has ever seen real girls would be able to tell that. Some hate makeup, some are scared of pregnancy and others want to make chareer. Those just want to be breeding chambers. It's quite sad what happens to the new generation of females.

While this is creepy this is an interesting story.
thank you for wriitng,
Beyogi

Maybe

But the way I see such situations, something drastic must happen to shock Rebecca and/or the others out of it to act on their own, otherwise their actions and behavior will still be governed by the outside forces. That 'accelerated treatment' sounds ominously enough, don't you think so?

Also, not a single child shown so far made it higher on social ladder than being of the upper middle class. That may mean something, hmmm?

There is something I like about this

I can't quite say what it is but the subtle resemblance to the premise behind the film "Children of Men" may have something to do with it. I do hope that the mind control ends quickly or in a fashion that is good for our protagonist

Thanks, Susan!

Thank you for bringing your story back! I am glad that I now have the opportunity to read it.

It's Fiction! IT'S FICTION!

IT'S FICTION!

So there are funny things happening. The kids are being drugged. Obvious.

Why? Not so obvious. Either wait and read the story and find out or don't read the story and don't find out.

I will find out,

Joanne

BRAVO…

…Joanne. God on ya, sport.

Being severely dopaged!

I agree that the kids are being kept really sedated. I was so drugged before and during my transition that now, after having been off them for a couple years ... well, wow ... this was like legal? They can do this to people ??? I mean like really, it is mind control at it's finest. So in the dopage area, this story is NOT fiction. It is real.

Sue, I love your writing.

Numb Gwen.

I've been there too Gwen. I can remember one trip to an Amusement Park that stands out in my memory. Following everyone else I got on the wildest roller coaster in the park. While they all screamed and laughed as we were thrown all over the place, I was just numb. I wasn't happy. I wasn't scarred. I simply was there unable to feel anything one way or the other. There is no way for me to know if I would've something stupid without the meds. I do know that I will never willingly go back on those things. I have way, way too many side effects to the damn things. In my opinion, too many Docs are too willing to take the easy way out and prescribe the pills without the therapy you need to work though the issues that caused the problem to begin with.

I have heard others describe the experience differently but it wasn't that way for me. Just the fact that they have this Process is proof medicine have greatly advanced. Maybe there really is Happy Pills in this time. All I know is that everything has a cost.

Sorry to get off tropic! Great story Sue!!!!

Hugs!

It's Back!

Thanks Sue! I won't comment about is happening to Rebecca. I'll instead let my imagination loose about what is happening in other countries where no attempt at all is made to cushion the girls transformations. Where low social standing is almost an immediate sentence to become a baby factory. Where perhaps old enemies are disposed of by in the name of continuing their nation's life. In places where they don't have access to this process, the last born girls are a fiercely fought over commodity.

What a fascinating world you've created Sue so full of darkness but yet do I see a glimmer of hope?

Hugs!

Hmm, interesting! I'm glad

Hmm, interesting! I'm glad you're continuing this Sue!

I'm guessing when Rebecca's parents get back in touch with her that they're going to notice the huge change in attitude and then things will start happening...

Great to see this story back, Sue.

I'm glad you decided to bring it back. Dark? Yes. Disturbing? At times it is. Well written? You'd better believe it! I've been caught up in this one from the start and I'm sure that the mind control aspect will fade in future chapters. At least the really overt things involving that.

Is it a good story? Oh yes, very much so in my humble opinion and it's pretty clear that others think so too.

Therefore, if some readers chose not to continue reading this for whatever reason, it's their loss I think. I plan on finding out not only what happens next, but how this ends.

Thank you again for putting this story back up, Sue.

You keep writing; I'll keep reading

You write a gripping story, Sue; whether it's high drama or comedy/suspense, I enjoy them all.

My television, like most such devices, is fitted with an on/off switch; I use it rather than complain that a programme is not to my taste. If a story doesn't appeal to me, I don't read it. I don't write and complain that it's been written.

Please keep writing, and I'll keep reading.

Susie

Catching up

RAMI

I have just finished reading all four chapters, so I am somewhat behind on some of the threads of the comments.

First, as always this is a well written story that will keep me coming back, as I did with "Changes" and I continue to do with "Football Girl".

In a prior chapter there was a debate about the new world divisions. Nothing that was stated should be a big surprise or be considered unrealistic.

The U.S. and Canada, have had the closest relationship of any two nations in the World. The last time there was active conflict between the two countries was during the War of 1812. Most other regions of the world have seen conflict and war between neighbors many times with the European continent the place of many battle grounds. The U.S. and Canada have been allies in WWI, WWII and in Iraq 1 and Afghanistan. We essentially speak the same language except for an 'eh' here and a Zed there. The religious compositions of the countries are similar and we have shared the longest open border between nations. Except for problems created by 9/11 it was simple to just walk across the border.

That China was successful in achieving what Japan hoped to achieve in WWII, a unified cohesive East Asia, is not that all remarkable. China before she was humiliated by the West starting in the mid-1800's was the dominate power in the area. The story indicates that China won a war with India, so India is not so much an ally of China, but a subjugated nation.

As to how our hero/ine is reacting, the story-line postures that the world has changed drastically during the 20 years from the start of the plague. He was not raised to be aggressive and is reacting as a child used to being passive would react.

Of course the students are being drugged and or subject to forms of brain washing. Was it that surprising. The "State" is conducting an experiment with a group of students who for the most part are essentially unwilling participants. Even those like Bethany who want the experiment to succeed need to be properly managed. They need to run the experiment with few if any hiccups.

There are other stories on this site where the boy is coerced, drugged or brainwashed into becoming a girl. Most do not start with premise that this story does. Here, if you believe, the underlying premise is true, that no new girls are being born, and that mankind is in danger of extinction, then it can be argued that what is being done for the common good, and that the sacrifice of a few for the benefit of the many is justified.

My question, is if the premise is true? If not then what is being done is a travesty.

Can't wait to see what happens to Rebecca next.

RAMI

RAMI

Interesting Final Question...

But if it's not true, then either there's a literally worldwide conspiracy here, or the U.K. has cut itself off from the rest of the world and is feeding its citizens false information about it a la Heinlein's If This Goes On.... The latter would explain Bethany's parents being incommunicado, but I can't recall any indication that non-official foreign travel is restricted, or that people who leave for someplace less volatile than India/China haven't been coming back.

I suppose it's possible that the U.K. has found a cure for the condition that it's trying to conceal. (For some reason, they're unable or unwilling to share it with the world, and they fear invasion from one or more of the major powers if they learn about it.)

But I get more of a feeling of desperation, as if upcoming experiments -- we've been given the name "Project Phoenix", with its suggestion of self-immolation in hopes of a better end result -- are anything but certain to be successful, and that the mind games they're choosing to play are needed because these particular converts are going to be subjected to more than Standard Operating Procedure, and it's unlikely to be pleasant even for those who are OK with the sex change.

Presumably we'll find out eventually.

Eric

Of course they are being

Of course they are being drugged, amd probably kept in a relaxed, unconscious state to make them more open to suggestions whilst being given hypnotherapy. Of course States do that all the time, here and now. No State in the world as it is could exist very long without the use of force to make people do things they would rather not do, and to stop them doing things they want to. At least this State in this tale is behaving with some restraint some gentleness and some finesse.

One day, perhaps, people will live together in peace and cooperating to achieve mutually desired goals because they all love one another and they genuinely want to help each other, and there will be no more states and no more use of or threat of force. But we are still a long way removed from that.

Stories are more entertaining for people when the narrative contains some conflict elements. This tale is better for those elements. It is only in Real Life we would, at least some of us, prefer to not have such conflicts.
