Chapter 8 — Surprise!

Last time...
She smiled fondly down at me for a minute before she finally answered, "I'm just worried about this trial. It looks like it's going to be really rough for you. And I'm also worried that Karen might get away with this."

I laughed a little before the pain stopped me. Then I had to take a moment to get my breath back before I could answer, "Don't worry about that Mom. Mr. Darvin has a great plan! It's a secret for now, though. He doesn't want anyone but the two of us to know what he's got up his sleeve so nobody can let it slip on accident or through their reactions or something."

"Are you sure John?" she asked.

I nodded emphatically, "Oh yeah, I'm sure! Trust me, Mom, we've got aunt Karen right where we want her. But yeah, the trial itself is probably going to suck. At least until we get to the good part." I knew I'd probably end up crying again when I testified, but I was willing to put up with the embarrassment. Especially knowing we had an ace up our sleeve!

Chapter 7 — Home Again

Last time...
Mom shook her head, "Not yet, that's tomorrow."

"Oh, it seems like that was at least a day ago." I said, thinking of all the times I'd slept since then.

"No, but John..." Mom said, trailing off worriedly.

"What Mom?" I asked.

Mom bit her lip and said, "Well, Mr. Donner was telling me what the bail would probably be set at and...well, Karen can afford that. She'll probably be out after her hearing tomorrow."

Chapter 6 - Reconciliation

Last time...
I didn't give her a chance to use it as I lifted the chair up over my head and brought it down on hers as hard as I could. She dropped like a ton of bricks! I held the remains of the chair in my hand for a moment, unsure if she was conscious or not, then dropped it. I grabbed the glass of milk out of the dumbwaiter and ran into the bathroom. Dumping it out, I filled it with water and threw it into the fire. It took at least ten trips, but I finally put the fire out. Once that was done I ran for it!

Marcie just sat there staring at me for a while after I was finished. Then, shaking her head slowly, she said, "And how is that not impressive?! That's like something Michael Westen would do!"

"Yeah, right!" I snorted. "Michael Westen would have been out of there in ten minutes flat!"

Marcie started to say something and then stopped and stared at me oddly. I was just about to ask her what she was staring at when she said, "You used to take compliments a whole lot better than that."

My emotions seem to follow an irregular cycle. Sometimes the ups aren't all that high, and the downs are pretty darn low. I had a moment around the beginning of this year, on the drive home from work, when the idea popped into my head that all I had to do was put my foot down on the gas and let the car drift over into the trees lining the road and I wouldn't have to feel that bad ever again. I had to fight to keep from doing it, too. Scared the #*!@ out of me, as you can imagine.

I keep losing track of time lately! Sorry about being a day late to post again, but The Watcher #7 is up now. Things get a bit complicated for me at this point, because Watcher, Who Watches the Watcher, Toil & Trouble and Venus Cursed! all come together to some extent. There will be a fair amount of overlap between the various series for a while, though mostly between Toil & Trouble and Venus Cursed!

I just realized I never posted anything yesterday! :( Sorry! I go and announce a schedule, and then I don't even stick to it. As soon as I'm done writing this I'll post Toil & Trouble 15. And I'll go ahead and post again on the 25th, so as to make up for screwing up my schedule like that.

Can you believe, that I totally forgot it was time to post something? By the time I got home yesterday I was totally washed out, and I still had to walk the dog and make dinner. After that I was really wiped out!

Progress!

I finally made the last payment on my credit card today! Shortly after going full time I had something like $16,000 of credit card debt, but as of today it is $0! ^_^ I've been working hard towards this for a long time, so I'm very happy! Especially since it means all the money I was putting on my credit card can now go towards paying off my car loan. And once that's paid off (which won't take too long, now), I can finally start saving up for surgery!

That's still a while off yet, probably a couple years or so, but it's a step in the right direction.

I cringed when I saw Bill walk in. He was so hunched over and miserable looking! I've been watching him for weeks, and he's getting worse. And he won't talk about it! I'm probably his only friend, but he keeps a lot back from me.

"Hi Bill, how are you?" I asked.

"Fine." was his only reply. We used to talk a lot, but lately one word answers are the best I can get out of him.

Posting schedule change

I've been working up to this for a while, and it's still kind of premature, but I've decided to go ahead and change my posting schedule from every 7 days (Fridays) to every 6 days. This means I'll be posting on Thursday this week. I'm going to SacAnime Friday-Sunday, so it seemed as good a time as any. ;)
