Reflections: A Gamble

Printer-friendly version

This is my first attempt at posting something on here so please forgive any mistakes in format or anything else.

Anyway here is a small teaser of a story that I have been kicking around for a bit. It’s still a bit rough but I figured let you’ll get a taste. It may be a little bit until I post the first chapter and really get underway I hope y’all enjoy.

Reflections: Gamble

Prologue

A cry rent the night from the depths of the palace a cry not of terror but of pain and joy, The princess had been born.

“Sound the bells” King Damien called out “let them sound out to all the lands, The Princess has been born” just as the words left his mouth Damien heard the unmistakable sound of boots pounding down the corridor to the royal bedchamber.

“Your Majesty! Your Majesty!” Leona called as she burst into the royal bedchamber.

“What is it Guard Captain?” Damien asked turning to face the striking young lady guard captain

“Your Majesty we are under attack.” Leona panted out

“Here captain take a seat catch your breath and then explain to me what is going on.” The King said leading her to a chair

“Your Majesty There isn’t time. It’s the your brother the Duke.”

“Royce! This must be a mistake.”

“No Your Majesty i saw the red and black boar myself. He here with an army of at least ten thousand.” She breathed just as a resounding crash of wood on wood sounded from the palace gates

“What in the nine hells” the king swore

“how did they get here so fast what of the city guard?” A small voice piped up from the Voluminous mound of pillows adorning the bed

“I don’t know My Queen. For them to have penetrated our defences this far they must be getting aid from somewhere.” Leona sighed

In the brief moment of silence that followed a new sound drifted up to those gathered in the room a sound they all knew too well the quiet moan of the undead.

“No! No, No, No. He couldn’t have.” Queen Serissa whimpered from the bed.

“Hush my love.” The King breathed to his wife “I’m sure is not what you think.”

A sweet Coo drifted out from the swaddled bundle clutched desperately to the Queen’s breast Just as another scream rent the Night

“Necromancer!” Some poor soul screamed out before an explosion of wood stone and iron silenced him as the palace gate exploded in green fire. Wave after wave of undead bearing the armor and tabard of the city guard poured through the smoldering ruins of the once mighty gate.

“My King, My Queen we must get you out of here the palace has fallen.” Leona cried as she jumped to her feet

A silent look passed between the King and Queen a look full of love and understanding

“No Leona, Serissa cannot travel not after just giving birth to our daughter Rayne and I will not leave her to be tortured and corrupted by that fiend.” King Damien wispered never breaking eye contact with the Queen

“You have been like a sister to me and I Know Damien feels the same way I do.”

“My Queen. You can't mean?” Leona yelled as she rushed over to the Queen’s bed side

“I do. My … Our final Command for you MY Sister!” Queen Serissa of Lemire whispered. “Take our daughter as your own. Raise her well. Raise her to be Kind and Loving. Raise our little Rayne to be the Princess that she should have been. Teach her the sword the bow and the lance Teach her as we were both taught. But most of all teach her to be strong and free.”

“I will Serissa. My Queen, My Friend My… Sister” Leona sobbed as she bent down and embraced her dearest friend.

“These are the only gifts we can give to aid you.” Damien said reaching out and taking the Queen’s Sword and unsheathing it “This would have gone to Rayne when she reached her sixteenth birthday as I Give it to her now for she is the crown Princess of Lemire and our daughter.” Sheathing the sword he passed it to Leona “I also give you this my precious little girl” leaning down King Damien, mumbled over the bundled princess who cooed and began to glow “fight, survive, and be free then one day when you’re ready take up your birthright and lead this kingdom out of the darkness.” Standing with tears staining his face King Damien passed the little bundle to Leona. “Take the tunnel from the vault none but we three know of it. It will lead you to a small farm beyond the city walls it is run by an old acquaintance of yours take as much gold from the vault as you can. Now GO!”

Welcome to posting on BCTS.

A nice start to what could be an interesting story, as for mistakes and errors - well when I used to post I
was the recipient of 'suggestions' from the 'grammar gestapo' and I think I learned from the comments don't take them to heart
as they are given for the best reasons.

Keep it going this could be good can't wait for the next episode my only complaint is that it's a bit short but as it sets the scene for what
is to come and is a taster that's to be expected.

Sorry this was so short

I’m glad you enjoyed it having only written the first chapter and that still being edited and Touched up it’s probably going to be a little bit until I can post again specifically I want to get a little bit of a backlog of chapters So that once I start going y’all are never without the weekly chapter

Not a bad start sis
