Water shot up into the air; it must have gone up about ten feet. Three or four more jets of water gushed in succession. I loved hearing the slap of the water coming down. There was a small park with a few trees next to the fountain, and a dozen shops surrounded them. The shops were expensive, being so close to L.A. I probably should have expected that though.

Skater Grl

Skater Grl

It started as a joke.

I’d always loved skating, and I soon was good enough that my coach partnered me with a girl named Kate and we began training as a pair, doing what’s called ice dancing.

Kate was also pretty good, and we clicked right away - at least on the ice.

Off the ice, Kare made it clear she thought of me as more of a brother than a potential romantic partner, and even though I was a bit disappointed, I was too happy with our progress as a team to kick too hard.

Life at Davidwache went back to normal, as Biggi, Marion and Esme finalized the preparations for our celebration. Our outside guests, ThreeB and Maureen, Chris and Helena and most important of all Kathrin and Martin had been alerted and I had finally remembered to ask Esme about Agatha. Evidently she was a lost daughter of the house of Hessen, who had been written off immediately after her disappearance. We both thought it best to leave it at that, I because I knew Agatha would like it that way and Esme because she knew the parents and siblings.

Into the Land of the Pinks

Murphy's Law : Book 2 | Red Harvest

Murphy's Law
Book II: Red Harvest
By Josie

Jack Murphy once again delves into the murky underworld to find a missing girl. Armed with only his dry-wit and cynicism, he journeys to a quiet little farm town called Waterston. It’s a beautiful place, renown for its cherries and the orchards that dotted the landscape against the rolling green hills beyond. But it’s also a world where the hunter becomes the hunted and where the forces of good collide with the evil cloaked in the myth and mysticism of an ancient belief.

It’s also a place where some find the "Red Harvest sinfully wild to enjoy, while others find nothing more than disappointment and regret . . ."

Murphy's Law (Revised)

Murphy's Law
By Josie

“Murphy understood the law and knew justice. He also knew that the two were often not the same. To catch the bad guy and win a confession, you had to be willing to step outside the box and take chances. That’s what made him a great cop. But that didn’t give him the right to take the law in his own hands. All he had to do was have a boy examined to confirm his true gender and now his mistake was going to cost him. Maybe his job? Maybe a demotion?

But then nothing in this case was turning out like it should. He should have seen this coming. He should have known that you can test the odds and you can test your resolve, but never pit your luck against Murphy’s Law. Because sure as the devil will get his due, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong!”

Chapter 27

The bad news

“Sarah? Sarah?”

Someone was shaking my arm. I opened my eyes just a slit. “Lisa!!!” I grabbed her and hugged her like she would try to escape, then released my hold and held her at arm’s length, “Oh, Lisa, I love you. Where is Aunt Katy?” Apparently, I looked desperate.

Lisa was calm. How could she be so calm at a time like this? “She’s right there in the kitchen. What on earth is the problem?”

Chapter 26

A cure for pestilence and an argument for prohibition

Hi. It’s Sarah again. You would probably know soon anyway, due to the superior quality of my writing. Also – with the bestest gramer and gratest speling in the world. Seriously the whole family was so happy about Lisa’s news! She came home exhausted after dinner, so I didn’t ask her how it went. I also got up quietly the next morning and let her sleep late.

But I realized that Lisa and I now had a growing problem at school with which to deal.

Laura, part 22

"Are you sure you're ready?" Mum asks, waiting as I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. Before I reply, I can't help but look at the girl looking at me in the mirror, a girl wearing a grey school uniform, complete with a white blouse, a smart blazer and tie, a grey knee-length pleated skirt, thick grey tights and plain black flats.

Chapter 25

Lisa meets someone

Hi! Lisa here. I’m taking over for a bit, because this part of the story is really not about Sarah, and if she told it, she would probably have to say, “Well, I guess you had to be there.” Or “… at least that’s what Lisa says”. So, since I was there, I will tell the story.

Once the surprise had died down I introduced Katharina to Annmarie and then I got to work a little with my team, while Angela wet off with Katharina, Annmarie and Harry to talk in his office. I left it to her to bring them up to speed on the developments as to Marina’s adoption of Anna, Esme, Marion and Biggi preparing the picnic our realisation and Sasha`s betrothal and impending surgery.

Chapter 23

Tracy? Is that you?

I, by chance, had met the bully from my former high school two-hundred miles away. Talk about coincidences! Even more incredible, he recognized me … kind of.

“Haven’t we met before?” he inquired.

“Wow, that’s an old line!” (OMG. When I was a boy, you wanted to kick my ass, now you’re gonna hit on me?)

“No! It’s not a line! I think I’ve seen your face before! Have you ever been to San Antonio?”

“Yeah, I had a couple of cousins who lived there.”

We left then to return to the house. On the way we persuaded Katharina to go to New York and come back with Maureen and ThreeB for the picnic. She was a bit unsure about going and meeting people she did not know, but I calmed her by telling her, that she would talk to Maureen on the phone beforehand. Now it was time to have a serious chat with Esme. I did not like her plotting at all in this instance. Maybe Grishka was ready in her opinion, but for one I disagreed. And Katharina certainly wasn’t. Angela just looked at me and grinned.
“Oh, my love, I am really going to enjoy what will happen now.”
I just grinned.
“What do you think will happen now?” Katharina asked her.
“I think, for the fist time in her life, the mighty Esmeralda will get to be seriously told off.” Angela giggled.

Jacinta, part 17

“Wake up it’s a beautiful morning…” The sound of the old nineties song by the Boo Radleys blares from my phone, raising me from my slumber and reminding me that I have a big day ahead of me. After I rise from my bed, I pad through to the bathroom, reminded every step of the way that I’ve had plenty of big days over the last few weeks as well.

It was a rather subdued Grishka, who returned from the walk on his own. Sasha greeted him back and looked into his eyes then said:
“You feel rejected, because Mamushka and Angela spent the night without you?”

The evening had been a quiet one, all of us more or less exhausted or lost in our own thoughts, but it had nevertheless been a companionable silence. I had had to convince Grishka of the necessity to keep out of the filming with a compromise. We would go together, Grishka, Sasha and I, an hour before meeting Constantin, by which time Sasha and he would be gone and they would keep to Sasha’s bedroom, while the interview was going on. Biggi, on the other hand I wanted to be home to greet Angela and myself as a token to the truth. She had no problem with that, as it was free advertising for her shop. We would keep quiet about the picnic, though.

Chapter 21

Graduation Day

Christmas vacation ended and, as my grandparents left, Dad told them he would prepare a place for them in the main house, where they could stay while a contractor came in to paint and update the interior to the servants’ quarters to Pop’s and Mama’s specifications. They made a short list of the things they wanted done, telling they trusted him to make whatever other changes he felt needed to be made. We said our goodbyes, but we were happy that they would soon be back to stay.
