Charlie drove a very apprehensive Liz out the Reservation. They parked at the centre where they’d met Billy on the two previous occasions they’d visited the Reservation.

As they opened the door to go in, the doors burst open and a man in a Wheelchair came out.

“Sorry”, he said as they leapt backwards.

Liz and Kat explained by relating the story of their trip onto the reservation the previous day and Al’s visit to the RV that morning.

“It looks like we have a solution then?” said Bill.

“We have a solution,” said Liz.

“But you and Kat are buggering off home very soon,” said Liz without thinking.

“Ok. Ok. Sorry – wrong words, but you know what I mean.”

Fully refreshed & relaxed, Liz & Charlie flew back to New York a week later.

They arrived home only to find that Charlie’s Mother was still on the warpath. For the time being, his Father was managing to keep her under control but not until she had fly posted their rented home with flyers exposing Liz to all their neighbours.

This single event only made it more imperative that they get out of town as soon as possible.

To say that Liz was stunned by the appearance of Charlie’s Mother would be an underestimate to say the least.

“Great news”, said Charlie when he closed his phone.

“They agreed then?” replied Liz slightly disinterested.

“Just as we predicted”

“Great. Now all we need is a student to go along with this”

Liz sat on her bed in a foreign city wondering how things could get any worse. Her deepening gloom was eventually interrupted by a quiet knock at the door.

“Go Away Charles”

“Scusilo Signora” came a female voice.

“What do you want?”

“Mr Charles asked me to speak to you about my designs”

With a mood of resignation Liz got up from the bed and went open the door.

Charles arrived for work the next day carrying a peace offering. He was carrying a huge bunch of flowers and a vase to put them in.

“Why Charles, I didn’t know you cared”, said Liz in a faux southern accent.

She acted the part as well.

Charlie smiled.

“And the Oscar for best actress goes to Liz”

They both fell around laughing.

Shell Shocked!

The arrival of a heavy thunderstorm produced a lull in the almost relentless bombardment from the Enemy positions less than half a mile away.

High Explosive & Very high static in the Atmosphere didn’t go well together. For an early September day in 1916 in the Western Front, and after a very dry period where the fields had turned from mud to dust the clear atmosphere was a welcome relief.

The Headmaster reread the letter for the umpteenth time still in total amazement and disbelief.
As he read the words again he just shook his head.

Dear Headmaster,
I heard about the tragic death of one of your pupils due to Bullying. This brought a tear to my eye.

Coming Out

[A Comprehensive School somewhere in England in the late 1960's]

We all filed in the classroom and sat down.
The teacher came in and began to call the register.
Eventually my name came round
“Thomas Parker”
“Yes Miss Greenhough”

With the register over, the lesson began. This was the bit I was dreading. Getting my homework results.

Mockingbird

“Fred, you really need to get someone in to clean for you,” remarked Trudy as the state of his house just outside Blackburn.

“Ay lass. But who is going to want to clean for a crackpot like me knowing full well, that 5 minutes after they’d left for the day it would be covered in greasy finger prints?”
“Fred! I can’t argue with that logic”
Fred ignored her and carried on his speech that Trudy had heard many, many times before.

“George” said the woman lying next to her husband in bed.

He continued snoring gently.

“George!” she said more urgently.

Then she gave him a kick. The snoring stopped.

“Wassup?” he said sleepily

“They’re at it again”

“At what again?” he said totally disinterested manner.
