Hatbox in a Pickle - Funds needed

This is not the regularly scheduled request for funds to operate BC. This is an extraordinary request for funds to help Melanie and I get back home so we can operate BC. We had an accident in my car. We are both fine, unhurt. But the car was not so lucky.

At the moment, we're stuck in the little town you end up in if you DO take a left turn at Albuquerque. The motel is nice but we want to go home. I haven't been able to get answers from the insurance as to whether they are going to cover a rental car while they decide whether to repair the car or junk it.

Big Rock Candy Mountain Detour by me, about me

I'm currently writing and posting my autobiography here on BC and on Patreon. The current episode, #4 - Doodlebug Wages, in on the BC front page right now.

These are from personal memories (yes, I do remember things that happened when I was two) and family stories and most of them show what an incredible spoiled brat I was. :)

I hope you read them, enjoy and leave a comment.

Hugs,
Erin

Special FX -006- Braless

A retelling, with permission and differences, of C.D. Rudd's classic webcomic SailorSun.org.

Billy Jones, a film student and extra, deals with having been exposed —if that's the word— to some sort of special effect.

What snoo?

It snowed here Friday night and it has been raining since at the lower elevations. This has probably put an end to our fire season for this year, locally, though fires continue to burn in the northern part of the state.

One community near here in the mountains has suffered two evacuation orders due to fire and yesterday faced another order for flash flooding. The cold saved it, not enough rain fell on the snow to melt all of it and make a dangerous flood. This morning, the white peaks appear and disappear in the clouds that are still dropping snow up where we really need it.

Wouldn't it be nice?

It's the only holiday in August, my birthday. :) I'm 72.

I'm thankful for a lot of things in my life and one of those is BigCloset which I have been operating, with the help of friends, for almost 21 years.

It's fun and I'm convinced it helps keep me young, despite the occasional stress. :)

I'm kind of passed the age at which I expect birthday presents, but if there is anyone out there who would like to know that they made me smile, they can send a gift through the Hatbox via the links in the right-hand column of this page.

Taking Pains -3- Write Like Every Word Is An Inevitable Surprise

She fell.

Through the quiet darkness with the moon over her shoulder, she fell.

Toward the sea below, and the rocks, toward the foaming maelström between them, she fell.

She pulled her hands and arms into a point above her head, or rather below it, steering with her legs in the wind of her own passage.

Down and down and faster and faster, her breath tight and painful, not because she was holding it but because it came so fast that it could not be held.
