While Krista was not a glamour queen, she had developed a feminine demeanor so that even dressed in jeans and flannel shirt she appeared to be a girl. The testosterone blockers were doing their job and had effectively shut down her male puberty before it started. Remembering how tough her school life had been in Massachusetts, she went out of her way to smile at everyone and greet them. In her book, everyone deserved a chance to prove their friendship.

At first the feeling is little more than a tickle at the back of your mind, but as your consciousness returns you begin to open your eyes. The darkness surrounding you is shocking, and helps to pull you quickly out of your drowsy state, after which it takes you only a few moments to relocate the lantern. Your bag of coins, on the other hand, is completely gone.

CHAPTER 40
That took me full circle, back to those articles about April Ashley, and I felt an odd sense of calm as I spoke.

I stood on the doorstep trying to pluck up the courage to ring the bell. More than ten years since I had seen her, and it was me who had walked out on her. Would she slam the door in my face? I wouldn’t blame her if she did. In fact I almost expected it.

The airplane ride, the trip through the countryside seemed to take forever.

The young boy in the back seat of the car felt somewhat like a criminal as he traveled with the social worker who knew all too well.

He was small for 12, and looked a little malnourished. His hair was way too long for the social worker who had accompanied him on this trip.

"Don't pull anymore of your tricks," she lectured. "You dressing like a girl. We couldn't keep you in foster homes. I suppose this one won't last very long if you keep that up."

CHAPTER 39
Bangor was three years of intensity. I was racing to a high level, and though never scaling the heights of those wonders Coe and Ovett I wasn’t doing too badly on the UAU circuit.

This is the first part of a multi-part story. The TG part won't become clear until much later so please bear with me on this. It does become a key part to the story.
This was also the first large piece I've ever written where the ending was totally clear in my mind before I started writing a word. I have to say that it was a little unnerving at times. Twisting the plot lines through many loops was not easy.

Kyle has purged and is trying to be "normal" - only to find it impossible. After two years of misery, his sister Christine dares him to put on their sister Taryn's dress. Can he resist? What happens to Kyle - and what does his mischievous sister have in store for him?

Part 2

Krista was once more feted as a hero for rescuing the battered child. This time instead of killing someone she'd saved someone. Saving a person definitely felt better. While pleased with saving Sandi, Krista was also disturbed by the incident. She felt there was something very important missing. Saving Sandi was only part of what she needed to do.

CHAPTER 38
We had enough resources between us, and independence, to take rooms of our own rather than be tied to the halls of residence.

Tanya wandered into her apartment unaware of the fact that her secret, which she’d tried so hard to hide from her family over the years, had been discovered. She undressed, removed her makeup and got herself ready for bed, all the while unable to shake the feeling that something wasn't right.

I stood outside the car in shock. The place stank of wet smoke, of burnt plastic and cloth. I knew, at that point, with absolute conviction that the bastards had finally got one of us, and cursed my lack of conviction in dragging her off to foreign parts.

That night was a private party, in effect, as all the pent-up stress of our exams erupted into collision and collusion with the joy of being reunited with such good friends.
